`여기, 지금`의 로컬리티는 지구화, 신자유주의, 국민국가의 재구조화, 정보·통신 기술(인터넷, 가상공간)의 발달로 인해 급속히 변화하고 있다. 즉, 로컬리티는 `지금이 아닌 과거와 미래` 그리고 `여기가 아닌 저기`와의 중층적이고 역동적 관계 속에서 생성·변화한다. 로컬리티 내부와 외부의 상이한 힘들의 관계는 본질론, 이분법 그리고 환원론으로 설명 혹은 해석되면서 많은 비판을 받았다. 로컬리티의 이러한 비판을 극복하기 위한 방안으로 본 연구는 사이공간으로서 로컬리티의 개념적 틀을 제시한다. 이 틀은 다양한 맥락 하에서 이루어지는 수행적 관계성, 생성·변화의 과정 그리고 이와 관련된 미결정성과 관계적 스케일의 정치에 기반을 두고 있다. 향후 제시한 개념적 틀은 많은 사례 연구 결과의 축적을 통해 수정·보완될 필요가 있다.

Locality as a `here and now` has been rapidly changed by globalization, neoliberalism, the restructuring of a nation-state and the development of information and communication technology. That is, locality is produced and changed in the multilayered and dynamic relations performed between now and past or future and also here and there. The relations of different forces in the interiority and exteriority of locality have been traditionally explained or interpreted by essentialism, dualism and reductionism, and such a perspective has been much criticized. To overcome the criticism to the traditional way of understanding locality, this study is to establish a new conceptual framework of locality as an in-between space. The framework is based on performative relations and process-oriented which are related to indeterminacy and the politics of relational scale. In the future, various case studies are needed to improve the framework of locality as an in-between space.
