본고는 입지의 측면에서 안성의 방각본 출판에 대해 살피는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 안성방각본의 현황을 정리한 다음, 방각본 출판의 3대 입지요인이라 할 수 있는 개인적 이유, 교통, 시장의 측면에서 안성의 방각본 출판 입지를 살펴보았다. 먼저 안성 방각본의 출판은 안성에 연고를 둔 자본가가 자신의 연고지인 안성에서 하기에 적합한 사업으로 방각본 출판을 선택하면서 이루어졌다. 그리고 방각본 출판은 양성과 죽산이 안성에 합해지기 전, 보개면을 중심으로 한 `옛 안성`에서 행해졌다. 그리고 안성은 방각본 출판에 적합한 교통의 요지였다. 즉 안성은 동래로와 제주로를 이어주는 중간지점에 있었기 때문에 예부터 삼남지방의 물산이 안성에서 모였다가 다시 각각 길을 바꾸어 삼남으로 내려갔다. 또한 안성은 안성천을 통해 아산 방면의 해로와 연결되는 한편, 육로로는 한강 수계로까지 이어졌다. 그래서 물자 이동(교역)의 측면에서 볼 때 안성은 교통의 요충지라고 하겠다. 한편 시장의 규모 면에서 볼 때에도 안성은 방각본 출판의 적합지였다. 즉조선후기 안성군의 인구밀도는 경기도 평균보다 훨씬 높았으며, 안성의 읍내장을 중심으로 양성, 죽산, 직산, 천안, 평택 등 6개의 군현이 하나의 시장권을 형성하고 있었기 때문에 안성방각본의 소비시장은 상당히 컸다. 그리고 이지역의 독서 인구도 적지 않았기 때문에 안성 일대는 소비시장으로서 호조건을 갖추고 있었다.

This paper is a research on Anseong Block Print Edition from the regional aspect. I studied the location of Anseong Block Print Edition publishing in the personal and regional causes about the transportation and marketplace. The personal reason is that publishers of Block Print Edition who had a large amount of capital were related with this Anseong area. Therefore all Anseong Block Print Edition were published in `Old Anseong where was centering around Bogae-myeon(보개면) before Yangseong and Juksan merged into Anseong. And Anseong was a place of great transportational importance. Therefore Anseong was suitable for the publication. Because Anseong was located in the middle of the connection between Dongrae-ro and Jeju-ro, three southern provinces` products had been gathered and distributed in Anseong from old times. Anseong was connected with the waterway in Asan through the Anseong-cheon by the sea route, and linked with the Han-gang by the land route. Considering the size of the market, Anseong was proper for the publication. During the late-Choson, Anseong density of population was higher than Gyeonggi-do`s average. And Six Gunhyeon(郡縣)-Yangsong, Juksan, Jigsan, Cheonan, Pyeongtaek and so on-formed a market network around the Anseong`s local markets. So Anseong could be a huge market for the Block Print Edition. In addition, the number of readers was not small. For those reasons, now I can say Anseong area had excellent conditions of the Block Print Edition market.
