본고는 사설시조의 미적 기반이 조선 전기 시조의 미적 기반과 다름을 병렬구조의 분석을 통하여 밝히는 데에 목적이 있다. 이는 주로 주제적인 측면 에서 미적 기반을 살폈던 기존 논의에 대한 반성적 검토에서 비롯된 것이다. 왜냐하면 미적 기반은 주제와 곧바로 연결된다기보다는 매개적 차원인 시적 기법에 의해, 그것의 방향성이 얼마든지 달라질 수 있기 때문이다. 사설시조의 병렬구조가 지니고 있는 특징은 사설시조를 장형화 시킨다는 데에 있음을 알아내었다. 즉 병렬구조가 사설시조의 구성 원리로서 기능하면 서 사설시조를 장형화 시키고 있다. 그런데 그 특징에서 비롯된 성격은 시적 긴장을 이완시키면서, 웃음을 자아내거나 혹은 구체적인 이미지의 제시에 의 한 즉각적 이해를 돕는 등에 있음을 살펴보았다. 사설시조는 병렬구조를 통 해 장형화되면서, 진지성의 회피 혹은 이해의 용이성을 미적 기반 내지는 본 질적 속성으로 하고 있음을 알아내었다. 그러고 나서 이러한 사설시조의 문학 내적 속성을 사설시조의 연행 환경과 연결시켜 봄으로써 사설시조의 미적 기반이 갖고 있는 의미에 대하여 고찰하였다. 사설시조는 다분히 향락적이고 유흥적인 문화생활을 향유하였던 경화 사족과 가객들에 의해 연행·향유되었다. 그리고 사설시조는 기록문학으로서 보다 구술문학의 성격을 다분히 지니고 있는데, 이는 사설시조가 주로 연행을 통해 향유되었기 때문이다. 이러한 고찰 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 사설시조는 삶의 성찰이나 도덕적 이데 올로기를 미적 기반으로 한 문학이기보다는 즐거운 유희를 미적 기반으로 한 문학임을 알 수 있었다. 이는 사설시조를 `근대`라는 잣대로 이루어 온 기존 논의에 대한 문제 제기적 성격을 띠고 있는 것이기도 하다.

This study has the goal of clearing that on the Esthetic Foundation of Saseolsijo different with the Esthetic Foundation of Choson former term throught analysis Parellelism. Parellelism is poetic device. Poetic device can change a basement of Esthetic. So Poetic device is importance. The feature of Parellelism of Saseolsijo is the longer of the length of Saseolsijo. By the way, Character of Lengthed Parellelism is Relax of Poetic tension and A laugh, ease of understanding. Namely Saseolsijo has natural property that is `Escaping of seriousness` and `Easy of comprehension`. So this property connect with envrionment of Perfomance, therefore the study of meaning about the esthetic foundation of Saseolsijo. Gyeonghwasajok and Gagaek in consumed and apolaustic perfomance and enjoying Saseolsijo. And Saseolsijo has character of Oral Literature rather than Documentary Literature. Because of Saseolsijo is enjoyed Performance. On the Synthesis, Saseolsijo has Enjoyment rather than Moral consciousness. The fact is raise a question in argument about established argument.
