우리 문화산업의 환경은 하드웨어, 소프트웨어의 시대를 넘어 콘텐트웨어 와 아트웨어의 시대로 전환되고 있다. 이는 미디어나 장르보다 감성적 체험을 중시하는 콘텐츠를 중심으로 문화산업의 기획이 이루어지고 있다는 이야 기다. 요컨대 콘텐츠의 미적 가치가 중시되고 있다. 이 글은 이 같은 문화 환 경 속에서 문화의 산업적·계량적 고찰을 넘어서 문학적 방법론을 원용한 인 문학적 고찰을 통해 문화콘텐츠 기획의 질적 향상을 도모하기 위해 작성되었 다. 문화콘텐츠의 기획과 입안, 제작과 실행 과정에 앞서 해당 콘텐츠 테마의 원형과 본질에 대한 인문학적 성찰이 전제된다면 콘텐츠의 질과 깊이를 더할 수 있다는 믿음에서 연구를 기획하였다. 본고의 분석의 대상으로는 `함평나비축제`를 선택했다. 그 이유는 나비의 상징성에 주목해서다. 축제의 하드웨어·소프트웨어의 기반이 취약한 상황에 서 `함평나비축제`가 공인받는 전국적 축제로 발전할 수 있었던 것은 나비의 상징성에 주목한 함평군의 콘텐트웨어 수립 능력에서 비롯되었다. 이는 `함평 나비축제`에 명시적으로 드러나지는 않지만 우리 문화에 내재된 나비 상징의 힘이 심층적 미적 가치로 작용한 결과이다. 즉 상징에 담긴 아트웨어의 측면 이 반영된 것이다. 본고에서는 나비의 상징성을 분석하기 위한 방법론으로 융의 집단무의식 개념을 원용했다. 한편 우리 문학·예술 속에 드러난 나비 상징과 축제와의 연관에 대해서도 살펴보았다. `함평나비축제`가 무난히 정착된 상태이지만 향후 더 큰 가치를 발현하려 면 당연히 상징의 문화원형적 구심력에 대한 주의 깊은 천착이 필요하다. 우 리 문화 전통에서 생명력이 지속된 나비의 상징성을 어떻게 발굴하고 재창조 하느냐는 과제는 단일 축제콘텐츠의 성공을 넘어 문화정체성 확립의 가치지 향과 직결되는 일이기 때문이다. 본고가 `함평나비축제`를 중심으로 살펴본 바와 같이 현대 문화콘텐츠의 기획과 실천에 있어 인문학적 성찰과 상상력은 매우 중요한 관건에 해당한다. 본고가 원용한 방법론인 인문학에 바탕을 둔 상징 분석이 문화콘텐츠 기획과 개발에 하나의 지침이 되기를 기대한다.

South Korea`s culturalindustry is making the transition to the era of "contentware" and "artware" from that of hardware and software. In other words, the cultural industry is placing more emphasis on contents rather than on media or genres. No less emphasis is on aesthetic aspects of the contents. Under the ongoing changes, this paper aims to confirm that it is worth analyzing cultural contents from the perspectives of humanities and literature, not just from those of industry and quantity. To this end, this paper analyzes "Hampyeong Butterfly Festival." With shaky infrastructure for a national festival, Hampyeong Butterfly Festival turned out to be a huge success, thanks to the regional government`s ability to create contents based on symbolism associated with butterflies. That is, the festival succeeded in striking the right cord among Koreans, many of whom have special feelings about butterflies, though it was not manifested during the event. It proves that artware aspects of symbolism were reflected in creating contents. This paper uses the concept of "collective unconsciousness" of Carl Jung to explain that. The fate of the festival can also be predicted through the cultural prototype of symbolism. Whether the festival will develop into a national event depends on how we find and recreate hidden symbols of butterflies, which injected a fresh life into our traditional culture. Humanities-based imagination, like this, proves to be playing a very important role in planning and creating cultural contents. I hope this paper will encourage more application of such quantitative analysis based on humanities to cultural contents.
