이 논문에서는 간이역을 모티브로 한 희곡의 특질을 그 공간적 상상력과 관련지어 논하고자 했다. 윤대성의 「출발」(1967), 김항명의 「철길」(1973), 김윤미의 「열차를 기다리며」(1987) 세 편을 논의대상으로 삼았으며, 간이역의 이미지가 희곡작품의 구조에 미친 영향관계를 집중적으로 분석하였다. 간이역은 사람과 화물이 들고나는 경계의 공간으로, 등장인물들로 하여금 대합실이나 플랫폼의 공간에서 누군가를 기다리는 기다림의 극적 상황을 유발한 다. 또한 간이역은 향수를 불러일으키는 추억의 공간으로 과거지향적 상상력을 촉발하며, 이는 현재와 과거가 교차하는 회상 중심의 시간구조와 인물의 정체와 관련한 은폐-폭로의 서사구조로 발현된다. 또한 간이역은 낡고 오래되어 쓰임새를 상실한 조락의 공간으로, 등장인물들의 불구성을 조장한다. 인물들은 하나같이 무엇엔가 미쳐 있거나 죄를 범하였거나 기억을 상실한 이들로, 무대 밖 세계 의 폭력성과 냉혹성을 상기시킨다. 마지막으로 간이역은 열차가 운행하지 않거 나무정차 통과하는 모순적 공간이며, 이러한 미로의 이미지는 대상작에서 기다림의 상황이 끝없이 되풀이되는 악순환의 결말 구조로 이어진다. 한편, 대상 작품에는 공통적으로 비관적 정서가 드리워져 있으며, 이는 간이 역의 몰락한 이미지에 더해 창작 당시의 특수한 시대상황이 영향을 미친 것으로 풀이된다. 4·19혁명과 5·16군사쿠데타의 교차, 7·4남북공동성명과 이산가 족방문의 무산, 1987년 6·10항쟁과 정권교체의 실패라는 우울한 시대상황이 대상 작품의 비극성을 심화시키는 촉매로 작용하였다. 그런 점에서 세 작품에는 공히 당대의 정치사회상에 대한 작가의 고뇌가 매복해 있으며, 간이역은 역사적 현실을 응축한 은유적 공간의 성격을 지닌다. 결론적으로, 기다림의 연속이야말로 인생의 본질이며 역사적 인간이 짊어져야 할 숙명임을 일깨우고 있다는 점에 서 간이역의 문학적 가치와 매력을 찾을 수 있다.

This essay aims to investigates special feature of korean contemporary drama related with simple station motive. In this essay, three winning plays of a Literary Contest in Spring - Yoon Dae-sung`s Departure, Kim Hang-myung`s The Railroad, and Kim Yoon-mee`s Waiting for a train are analyzed. A simple station is boundary place where people and freights comes in and out, it consign characters to a dramatic situation waiting for someone in a station waiting room or platform. And this place that has some memories of hometown causes writer`s backward-looking imagination, it appears flashback-centered time structure and concealing-exposing of identity narrative structure in the plays. And it is old and downfalled and useless place, causes characters`s disability. they all are insane or guilty or losing of memory, remind the violent and harsh outside world of the stage place. And it is contradictory place where trains don`t stop and pass, it`s image looking like a labyrinth cause ending plot in which the situation of waiting is repeated. On the other hand, passimistic emotion flow through three plays because of downfalled image of simple ststion and special situation of the times. A groomy situation of the times, that is, cross of 4·19 revolution and 5·16 coup, 7·4 joint statement of North and South and failure of the search campaigns for families separated, 6·10 democratization fight and failure of regime change and others act as a catalyst intensifying tragic mood in the plays. In this point, egony of writers about the present age of realities is hiding in the three plays, as a result, the simple station acquires nature of metaphorical place condensing historical present world.
