이 논문에서는 <숙향전>에 내재된 생태적 사유를 찾아보고, 이를 통해 인간과 자연의 관계에서 구체적 실천의 방향을 무엇으로 설정할 수 있을 것인지에 대해 논의하고자 하였다. <숙향전>은 김전이 강가에서 어부에게 잡힌 거북을 구해주는 것으로부터 작품이 시작되는데, 김전과 거북의 인연은 이후 등장인물들의 삶에 전반적으로 영향을 미친다. 자연물에 대한 사소한 보살핌이 삶의 커다란 인연을 만들고, 이러한 관계는 전반적으로 확대되어 인간과 자연 모두를 행복하게 만들어준다. 이를 통해 <숙향전>에서의 삶이란 끊임없이 연쇄되어 있으며, 살아가면서 타자의 고통을 이해하는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다. 그리고 타자의 대상은 자연물에까지 확대되기에 인간의 삶은 생태적 삶을 지향할 수밖에 없다. 특히 숙향이 은혜를 입었던 모든 자연물에 감사 드리는 것을 통해, 인간이 자연과 상호보완적으로 관계를 맺게 되는데, 이것은 삶의 생태적 실천을 보여주는 것이라고 평가할 수 있다.

This study is designed to take a look at an ecological thought inherent in Sukhyang-jeon and to deal with how we can find ways to establish the relationship between human beings and nature. The story begins with Kim Jeon saving a turtle caught by a fisherman in a river, and their relation has a general influence on the life of characters. A small care about a living thing creates a large tie in life, whose relationship makes both human beings and nature happy beyond the small boundary. Sukhyang-jeon maintains that life is an endless chain of relations and that understanding others` suffering is of great importance. Furthermore, the story says that since the objects of others are expanded to nature, human life cannot but be closely related to ecological life. Sukhyang owes much to all the living things in nature, which means that a human being has a close relation with nature. This can be interpreted as an ecological practice of life.
