이 논문은 김수영의 시 중에서 `꽃`을 주요 소재로 한 시작품들의 독해를 통해 김수영 특유의 언어관과 시학을 규명하고자 한다. 김수영의 시는 사회역사적 산물로서 시인이 겪은 식민지 체험과 한국전쟁의 자장에서 탄생했다. 김수영은 한국어가 시간에 질서를 부여하는 언어표현의 주권을 갖지 못한 상태에 놓여있다고 판단하고 언어의 주권 회복을 시인의 책무이자 시의 이상으로 보았다. 김수영은 일련의 시를 통해 죽음과 신생이 교차하는 순간의 이미지를 꽃으로 표현했으며 꽃에서 발견한 존재의 죽음과 신생의 구조를 언어 자체에도 적용시켰다. 교차배어 구조로 나타나는 언어의 꽈배기를 통해 의미의 죽음과 탄생을 시도한 김수영 특유의 수사 방식은 죽음과 신생의 교차점에서 침묵을 보고 거기서 새로운 탄생을 기도한다는 면에서 언어에 적용된 꽃의 사상이라고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 죽음과 탄생의 교차점을 상징하는 꽃의 이미지는 김수영 후기시의 한 절정인 「꽃잎」 연작에서 혁명의 순간을 그려낼 수 있는 언어구조를 만들어내었다. 이러한 언어구조는 시와 정치의 이분법을 극복하고 정치 의식에서 시가 탄생하는 것이 아니라 시적 언어에서 정치적 비전이 탄생하는 김수영 특유의 시적 이상의 실현이었다.

This essay examines Kim Su-Young`s poems with the focus on their aesthetic ontology and corresponding literary forms in their social-historical context. In contrast to previous scholarship, which portrays Kim Su-Young as either a political realist or a modernist within a narrowly defined political reading, my study places his poetry in a broader cultural and historical context, especially through colonial experience and the Korean War, demonstrating that his poetic ideal is the retrieval of an ultimate subjectivity or sovereignty of the imagination immanent in vernacular Korean. My analysis of Kim Su-Young`s works reveals how he pursued a poetic vision of sovereignty often threatened not only by colonization and subsequent national division, but also by compressed modernization. Moreover, my reading of his poetry with flower image demonstrates how Kim Su-Young fundamentally changed the understanding of language from a vehicle of communicative meaning to a form of ultimate imagination, a function of creating new meaning. My study explains how he equated a poetic ideal with a political vision without sacrificing either the existential complexities of an individual or a social reality.
