망국의 전야였던 1909년 7월, 초대 조선통감 이토 히로부미와 후임 소네 아라스케는 일본에서의 친임식을 마치고 순종을 폐현하면서 정식으로 통감 교체를 마쳤다. 당시 조정은 경복궁 경회루에서 이토 송영회(送迎會)를 준비했고 이어 한국 신구(新舊) 문인(관료)들 역시 시회를 열어 전별의 뜻을 전했다. 이토를 송별하는 원유회(園遊會)에는 무려 1800여 명이 참석할 정도로 성황리에 진행되었고, 문인들의 시회는 창덕궁 취운정에서 열렸다. 여기에는 주요 정치인과 더불어 김윤식·여규형·정만조 등 근대전환기 한문학을 상징하는 문장가들이 참석하여 이토의 공덕을 찬양하고 추앙하는 시를 창작하였다. 이 시들은「취운아집(翠雲雅集)」에 수록되어 있는데, 시들은 근대전환기 한일 양국 인사간의 시회에 내포된 정치성과 동시에 이 시기 지식인들이 창작한 한시(漢詩)의 굴곡진 국면을 보여주고 있다. 즉 황제의 권위가 배재된 채 일본 관료와 친일 인사의 친교의 장이 되어버린 궁궐 연회, 그리고 이토를 향한 과도한 찬사와 균형 잃은 우의를 내세우는 시어들의 범람을 잘 보여주는 것이다. 결론적으로 위 시집은 문집 속에 담긴 한 개별 지식인의 시가 아닌, `이토`로 표징되는 일본이라는 `힘`에 대한 편향된 시각을 갖고 있던 당대 지식인들이 작성한 시의 굴종적 면모와 무기력한 표정의 전체적인 상을 보여주고 있다. 즉 이 작품은 기존 친일문학 담론의 시기를 강제병합 이전으로 소급시켜 친일시의 `맹아` 혹은 `발단`이란 각도에서 조명해 볼 가능성을 제시하는 동시에 유교적 이념을 기초로 한자를 통해 자신의 의지를 표출한 구한말 한학(漢學)집단이 지녔던 대일인식의 일면을 표출하고 있다는 점에서 주목을 요한다.
In July, 1909, the night before the country`s ruination, Itou Hirobumi who was the first residency-general and his successor Sone Arasuke officially completed replacement of residency-general meeting with the Emperor Sun-jong after a ceremony of installation by his majesty in Japan. In those days of Royal Court, they prepared welcome and send-off ceremony in Gyeonghoeru in Gyeongbokgung and the old and new writers conveyed farewell in a poetry party. In a garden party for farewell, there were as many as 1,800 people. This was more extensive party than Konwonjol, so Itou`s elevated status and authority can be estimated. This party was held in Chuiwoonjung in Changdeokgung led by Literati Bureaucrats in Korea, KimyoonsikYeogyuhyuoungJeongmanjo and all other writers who represent Sino-Korean literature in the transition period to modern era praise and venerate Itou`s morality. These poetry are in 「Chouiwoonajip」 and they show politics and literary bias implied in a poetry party of writers and also show a twisted aspect of Sino-Korean poetry in Korean Modern Age. In other words, Itou`s awareness of Korea with little objectivity, a banquet that became a place for commune of Japanese bureaucrats and pro-Japan collaborators with excluded authority of Royal family, and the inundation of poetic words that excessive praise toward Itou, unbalanced friendship which are resounded are shown in these poetry.
