본 연구는 1930년대 중·후반 사회주의 리얼리즘을 지지하고 해설하며 이를 조선현실에 적용하려는 임화의 담론을 연구대상으로 한다. 임화는 주객변증법을 바탕으로 `세계관`과 `창작방법론`, `현실`에 대해 논한다. 특히 `낭만`에 대한 두 글은 그의 기본적 사유체계를 내포하고 있는 것으로서 주목을 요한다. 유물변증법적 세계관을 내포하고 있는 주체를 상정하고 그 주체의 우세를 논했던 `낭만`론의 구조는 일반적 인식과 달리 `주체재건론`에서도 계속된다. 본고는 그의 담론에서 일관되게 나타나는 주객변증법의 구조를 밝히고, 그것이 변주되는 양상을 추적했다. 또한 `주체재건`론에 있어서 주체의 `세계관`과 세계관의 바탕으로서의 `현실`의 의미를 분석하고 그것을 비판적으로 검토하여 그 한계와 의의를 드러내고자 했다. 이 모든 이론적 바탕에는 임화 자신의 유물변증법적 `세계관`이 전제되어 있다. `현실`과 `실천`을 주장하는 시점에도 그에게는 주관주의적 관념편향이 드러난다. 30년대 후반, 임화 자신의 비평가적 주체나 사회주의 리얼리즘의 현실적용 문제가 스스로에게 반성되는데, 이는 이러한 논리적 한계 위에서 설명된다.

This study was conducted on Im-hwa`s discourse which supports and describes socialist realism in the mid- and late 1930s and attempts to apply it to Chosun reality. Im-hwa discussed `world view`, `creative methodology` and `reality (objectivity)` based upon subject-object dialectic. His two works about `romantic` which involve fundamental system of his thinking are especially worthy of notice. Unlike general perception, the `romantic` structure of his works which introduces subjects with dialectical materialistic world view and discusses superiority of the subject continues in `reconstruction of the subject`. This study revealed the consistent structure of subject-object dialectic in his discourse and traced the aspects of its changes. In addition, this study tried to analyze the `world view` of the subject regarding `reconstruction of the subject` theory and the meaning of `reality(objectivity)` based on the world view and provide a critical review on it to reveal its limitation and significance. This theoretical background is based on Im-hwa`s own dialectical materialistic `world view`. Conceptual biases of subjectivism are found in his view of `reality(objectivity)` and `practice`. In the late 1930s, Im-hwa reflected on his critical subject or reality application of socialist realism, and it can be explained with this logical limitation.
