이 글은 식민지 시기[戰前]와 해방 이후[戰後]를 연속적 담론의 영역으로 전제하면서, 최승희와 리샹란을 대상으로 하여 내셔널리즘의 변용과정과 그 양상을 추적해본 것이다. 최승희와 리샹란은 제국 일본의 초국가적 문화예술 네트워크를 형성한 초대형 스타로서 당대 동아시아 대중예술의 지형을 구축해간 인물들이다. 그런 탓에 최승희와 리샹란의 블록버스트급 활약은 당시에는 물론, 현재에도 하나의 신화로 구축되어 있다. 그런데 이들의 신화화 과정에는 식민지와 제국주의, 남북분단, 천황제와 헌법, 전쟁, 국민국가의 불완전성, 강력한 대국의식 등의 문제들, 즉 한국과 일본사회가 해방과 패전의 기점에서 은폐해버린 `오욕의 직시`를 회피하면서 작동된 각각의 내셔널 무의식이 가로놓여 있다는 점에서 공통적이라는 것이 필자의 생각이다. 왜냐하면 한국과 일본에서 최승희와 리샹란을 조망하는 후대의 시각은 각자가 위치한 정치·역사의 존재방식에 따라 편의적으로 영토화 되어왔다고 판단하기 때문이다. 여기에는 후대 연구자들의 공동체 내부에서 기인한 무의식이 억압적인 형태로 영향을 미치고 있다고 볼 수 있는데, 과거 최승희와 리샹란이 초민족적 문화 횡단을 경험했던 규모와 비교할 때 후대 연구자들의 무의식이 기묘하게 축소되어 있다는 점은 문제적이다. 따라서 이 글은 최승희와 리샹란이 각각 해방과 패전 이후 신화화되는 과정 속에서 간과된 복합적 아이덴티티의 균열지점에 집중해봄으로써 현재의 시점에서 그것을 바라보는 전망에 대해 살펴고자 했다.
This writing examined an issue of the course of national identity changes while premising the period of the colonial era by Japan (before the war with Japan) and post-liberation time out of Japan (after the war) as a consecutive area of discussion. Choi Seung-hee and Lee Xiang-lan were megastars who formed supernational culture and art networks of the Japanese empire and were people who constructed the territory of public arts. Therefore, blockbuster-level outstanding activities of the two stars were constructed as legends even at present as well as that time. By the way, in the course of legendizing them, there were problems such as colonies, imperialism, division of Korea, emperor system and constitution, wars, imperfection of a nation state, and powerful awareness as a great country. Namely, I think they have common things in that respective national unconsciousness of Korean society and Japanese society lies ahead, which was operated evading “facing up to disgrace” concealed at the starting point of liberation of Korea and defeat of Japan because viewpoints of later generations looking at Choi and Lee were conveniently territorialized according to existence methods of politics and history that they faced respectively. In here, unawareness originated from the inside of communities of later-generation researchers exists in an oppressed form. When it is compared with the size that Choi and Lee experienced super-ethnic transculturalism in the past, the unconsciousness of later-generation researchers is contracted peculiarly. Therefore, by focusing on cracks of complex identities overlooked in the course of legendizing Choi Seung-hee and Lee Xiang-lan after liberation of Korea and defeat of Japan, the writing is to examine prospects seeing them from the viewpoint of the present.
