「경의철도가」는 20세기 초에 한국과 일본에서 집중 발표된 철도창가의 일종이다. 이제까지 이 작품에 대해서는 발표 연도나 작가가 알려지지 않았으나, 작품 내에 거론된 철도역의 명칭을 검토한 결과 1921년 하반기에서 1923년 전반기 사이에 창작된 것임을 알 수 있었다. 앞서 발표된 「경부텰도노래」 및 「만한철도창가」와 비교해 볼 때, 이 작품에 대해 다음 몇 가지 사항을 파악할 수 있었다. 1. 이 작품은 경의선을 타고 서울(경성)에서 의주로 이동하면서 연로상의 특정한 역에서 볼 수 있는 일제강점 이후의 변화를 소개하고, 여기에 틈틈이 조선의 옛 인물과 유적(사적지)을 회상하는 서술 방법을 채택하고 있다. 아동들의 지리교육용 노래라는 원래의 목적에 충실한 작품으로, 서술 방법이나 연로 주변의 경관에 대한 인식에서 별 다른 특이점을 보여주지 않고 있다. 2. 주변 경관 유적지에 대한 언급은 단순한 볼거리를 제시하는 차원에 머물고 있다. 「경부텰도노래」에서처럼, 역사적 인물과 그들의 업적을 되새기고 현실상황에 대한 반성적 성찰과 타개책에 대한 진지한 고민을 유도하는 모습은 찾을 수 없다. 3. 관서 지역에 대한 언급은 곡창 지대, 석탄과 철의 산지, 공업의 발달 등을 소개하는 것에 머물고 있다. 이는 관서 지역을 군수자원 보급처와 대륙 진출통로로 활용하고자 했던 일제의 식민정책에 호응하는 모습이라 할 수 있다.

「Kyongui railroad song」 is a sort of Railroad song which intensively published in early 20th in Korea and Japan. Thus far, the writer and published date of this song is unknown, therefore it is assumed that it was written between late 1921 and early 1923 considering the mentioned train station in the song. Comparing 「Kyongbu railroad song」 and 「Manju-Korea railroad song」, 「Kyongui railroad song」 has some significant characteristics. 1. 「Kyongui railroad song」 introduces the changes after japanese colonial era moving Seoul to Uiju by Kyongui railroad train. Also, it adapted a certain description methods by reminiscing the Joseon Dynasty`s historical characters and remains. It is devoted to it`s goal-teaching children geology, therefore it does not have an unconventional view or different description method. 2. 「Kyongui railroad song」 simply mentions nearby remains as attractions. Therefore, the song does not induce serious consideration of current issues and its solution, reflective introspection and ruminations on historical characters comparing 「Kyongbu railroad song」. 3. 「Kyongui railroad song」 just introduces West-North area of Korea as a breadbasket, producing area of coal and iron, industrial place which takes responsive position to Japan willing to make use of West-North as a line of attack to China and resources supply place.
