본 연구에서는 정당한 세상에 대한 개인적인 믿음과 우울간의 관계에서 내외통제성을 통한 공동체의식의 조절된 매개효과를 확인하였다. 이를 위해 서울과 수도권에 거주하는 253명의 직장인을 대상으로 정당한 세상에 대한 개인적인 믿음, 내외통제성, 공동체의식, 우울 증상을 측정하였고, SPSS Macro를 사용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 공동체의식이 정당한 세상에 대한 개인적인 믿음과 우울 증상간의 관계를 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 내외통제성이 정당한 세상에 대한 개인적인 믿음과 공동체의식간의 관계를 조절하는 것으로 나타났는데, 특히 내적통제성이 낮을수록, 정당한 세상에 대한 개인적인 믿음에 따른 공동체의식의 수준에 큰 차이가 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 셋째, 정당한 세상에 대한 개인적인 믿음이 우울 증상에 미치는 영향에서 내외통제성을 통한 공동체의식의 조절된 매개효과가 나타났다. 즉, 내적통제성이 낮은 사람은 정당한 세상에 대한 개인적인 믿음이 약하면 낮은 수준의 공동체의식을 지각하여 우울 증상에 취약하지만, 내적통제성이 높은 사람은 정당한 세상에 대한 개인적인 믿음이 약하더라도 높은 수준의 공동체의식을 지각하여 우울 증상에 취약하지 않다는 것이다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 기여도, 후속연구를 위한 제언, 그리고 상담적 함의를 논의하였다.

The purpose of the present study was to examine the role of a sense of community on the relationship between beliefs in a just world for self and depression. In addition, the ability to internal-external locus of control to serve as a moderator between beliefs in a just world for self and a sense of community was investigated. Among a sample of 253 employees in Korea, moderated mediation analyses using SPSS macro revealed the following results. First, a sense of community mediated the association between beliefs in a just world for self and depression. Second, internal-external locus of control moderated the relationship between beliefs in a just world for self and depression. That is, as internal locus of control increased, the positive influence of beliefs in a just world for self on a sense of community increased. Third, the interaction of beliefs in a just world for self and internal-external locus of control influenced depression through a sense of community. Such finding suggests that when beliefs in just world for self were weak, people with low internal locus of control had a weak sense of community, and were thus, vulnerable to depression, whereas people with high internal locus of control were not vulnerable to depression because their sense of community was not weak. Based on these findings, the limitations and implications of the study were discussed.
