본 연구는 고은의 『만인보』를 통해 시 장르에서 역사가 형상화되는 양상과 그 의미를 살펴보고자 한다. 『만인보』는 각 시편에서 독립적인 개별 인물의 삶과 경험을 다루고 있지만 전체적으로는 한국 근현대사를 배경으로 삼고 있다. 『만인보』 각 시편의 이야기들은 개인의 삶과 역사적 지평이 만나는 지점에서 생성된다. 폴 리쾨르에 따르면 역사와 허구가 교차하는 지점에 존재하는 이야기는 인간이 자신의 과거를 이해하고 정체성을 획득할 수 있는 매개라는 의미를 지닌다. 본 논의에서는 역사적 사건이 부각된 4.19와 5.18 시편을 중심으로 이야기의 발화 양상을 분석해보았다. 4.19에 대한 형상화는 사실적 정황에 충실한 관찰자의 시선으로 혁명에 참여한 학생, 시민들의 사실적 경험을 기록하듯이 보여준다. 르포르타주가 계급적 의식을 토대로 사회 현실의 모순을 폭로하는 고발적 글쓰기이듯이, 4.19 시편에서 관찰자적 시적 화자는 부패한 정치권력에 저항하는 시민계층의 모습을 사실적으로 보도함으로써 현실을 비판하고 이에 저항해야 한다는 각성과 동참을 호소한다. 이에 비해 5.18 시편의 경우는 희생자들의 고통을 환기하고 죽음을 기억하며 트라우마적 과거를 현재로 생생하게 재현하는 발화의 특성을 보여준다. 목격자의 목소리뿐 아니라 이미 죽은 자들의 목소리가 증언을 통해 되살아나는 이야기는 독자로 하여금 타인의 고통에 동참하게 한다. 1인칭과 3인칭을 넘나드는 모호한 화자의 시선과 태도는 사건의 정황이나 그것에 대한 총체적 의미보다는 희생자의 삶과 경험이라는 점에 주목하고 있으며, 역사적 사건 자체에 대한 평가를 넘어서서 인간성에 대한 윤리적 탐색을 향해 나아간다. 역사로부터 이야기를 복구하는 증언적 발화는 타인의 죽음을 기억하고 고통을 나눔으로써 자신을 삶을 인간적으로 만드는 윤리란 무엇인지를 성찰하게 만든다. 르포르타주에서 증언적 발화로 변화하는 역사의 형상화 양상은 역사의 지평 위에서 이루어지는 개인의 경험에 대한 관찰이 궁극적으로는 인간적 진실과 인간성에 대한 윤리적 성찰로 나아가는 과정임을 보여준다.
This research aims to the poetic configuration of history in Ko-Un`s Maninbo. The experience of human is recognized by story as a mediator. Paul Ricoeur said that the story is in the point History and fiction cross. In other word, the story representation the past and story is a fiction that is reconstituted by Mimesis and Mythos. Paul Ricoeur said that the past is constituted by story and then we can understand ourselves. Ultimately we can do self-examination. Maninbo configurates individual person and life narratively as a story Paul Ricoeur mentioned. Each poem is a story configurrates action, environment and the inner world of a person base on a real person. On the one hand Maninbo configurates the Korean history. Especially this work represents the Korean modern history and suggests reflection about our history. This research analyze the poetic configuration of the 4.19 Revolution, the 5·18 Gwangju Uprising. The 4.19 Revolution is configurated by reportage and the 5·18 Gwangju Uprising is configurated by testimony. Reportage aims at record and accusation about social problem or injustice. Maninbo focuses on the people participate in The 4.19 Revolution and then configurates individual event at that time. This is a kind of record and accusation hasn`t remembered. The other hand the 5·18 Gwangju Uprising is configurated by testimony. The voices of witness and victim come back to here by testimony. Maninbo deconstructs historical perspectives through narrating a story about individual life. Beacuse the other`s suffering makes us reserve judgement on historical meaning. As a result we may be face with what is a human ethic and human life.
