본고는 온도감각의 언어적 표현인 `따뜻하다` 및 `뜨겁다`와 이에 상응하는 영어 및 독일어 형용사가 구성하는 <형용사 + 명사> 연어들을 대상으로 삼으며, 여기에 나타나는 비유적 의미 확장 양상을 코퍼스 기반 인지의미론의 관점에서 비교 분석한다. 코퍼스에 의한 정량적 연어 분석을 통해 고빈도 연어군의 언어간 특성을 살펴보고, 분석대상 온감 형용사의 비유적 의미 확장이 적용되고 있는 개념 영역들을 확인한 다음, 온감 연어에서의 비유적 의미 확장 양상을 살펴본다. 온감 영역에서 비온감 영역으로의 의미 확장은 다양한 유형으로 나타난다. 대표적인 유형은 연어 구성요소간의 은유적 의미 확장으로서, 형용사로 표현되는 온감 영역으로부터 명사로 표현되는 비온감 영역으로 은유적 매핑이 발생하는 것이다. 둘째 유형은 연어 자체의 자구적 의미와 비유적 의미 사이에 은유적 유연관계가 성립하는 것이다. 그리고 비교적 드물게 관찰되는 유형은 연어 자체의 환유적 의미 확장이다. 특히 복잡한 의미 확장 유형은 연어 내부에서 은유와 환유가 상호작용하는 유형(은환유)이다. 이 유형에서는 `은유 속 환유`로 지칭될 수 있는 것이 대표적으로 관찰된다. 아울러 세 언어의 연어 분석에서 문화간 보편성과 특수성에도 주목한다.

This paper is aimed at examining semantic extension of Korean, English, and German adjectives for the concepts of WARM and HOT (Korean `ttattushan/ttukewun`, English `warm/hot`, and German `warm-/heiß-`), and further investigating the figurative meaning extension of related adjective-noun collocations from a corpus-based cognitive semantic point of view. To pursue these goals, first, the present investigation performs a quantitative analysis of the high frequency collocations, which reveals language-specific characteristics in the figurative mapping. Second, various mechanisms of figurative meaning extension are identified: the metaphorical meaning extension between two collocates, the metaphorical and metonymic meaning extension of a whole collocation, and the complex interaction of metaphor and metonymy (metonymy within metaphor). Lastly, this study explores universal and culture-specific aspects of the collocations which provide evidence for the interdependence of language, cognition, and culture.
