인문학이 과학기술과 문명에 대한 균형감각을 제공하는 학문이라는 점에서, 인문교육은 특히 이공계 대학에서 매우 중요한 역할을 담당하게 된다. 특히, 사회가 복잡해지고 미래가 불확실해질수록, 분과학문 간의 통합과 비판적 사고력의 함양은 대학교육의 중요한 과제가 되고 있다. 이러한 배경에서 포스텍은 문학 · 역사 · 철학의 학제간 인문통합교과로서 `인문학의 세계와 비판적 사고`를 개발하였다. 본 논문을 통해 필자는 이 교과목의 교육목표, 운영체계, 교육내용 및 교수학습방법을 상세히 제시하고, 향후 개선방향을 제안하였다. 이 교과목의 담당교수는 `문답법` 중심으로 수업을 운영하고, 학생들로 하여금 읽기 · 쓰기 · 토론의 연계활동, 조별 소논문 작성 등을 수행할 수 있도록 지도한다. 이를 통해 학생들은 인문학적 사유를 할 수 있고, 특히 비판적 사고력을 함양할 수 있는 기반을 형성하게 될 것이다. 앞으로 대학에서의 인문교육의 중요성에 대한 공감대가 확산되고, 인문교육을 강화하기 위한 적극적인 실천이 이어지기를 기대한다.

As humanities is a study which provides a sense of balance about technology and civilization, liberal education in natural science and engineering plays a very important role. Especially, as the societies are getting complex and the certainty of the future is not foreseeable, the integration among branches of learning and the cultivating of critical thinking became an important task in high education. With this background, POSTECH has developed `Humanities and Critical Thinking` as an integrated and interdisciplinary curriculum of literature, history and philosophy. In this article, I proposed a concrete educational objectives, operation system, educational contents, teaching-learning methods and future improvement. The professors of this class will operate a class focusing on `dialogue method` and direct the students to conduct a connected activities of reading, writing & debating and write a short thesis per each group. By these teaching-learning methods, students are able to think multidisciplinarily and strengthen the base to civilize a critical thinking. I expect the proliferation of a social consensus on an importance of liberal education and the practical efforts to enhance liberal education continuously in many universities in Korea.
