이 논문에서는 대학 교양수업에서 활용할 수 있는 텍스트로서 남 · 북한 소설을 각각 한편씩 제시하고 그 텍스트의 활용 방안을 모색하였다. 대상 텍스트는 은희경의 「빈처」와 정현철의 「삶의 향기」이다. 두 작품은 모두 결혼 이후 가사에 매몰되어 살아가는 여성의 문제를 다루고 있다. 그리고 문제의 당사자인 남편이 아내와 아들의 일기를 읽으며 문제해결을 위해 노력하는 모습을 담고 있다. 두 작품의 소재와 작중 모티프는 유사하지만 결말의 내용은 차이가 있다. 공통점은 두 작품을 비교하는 준거가 되는 동시에 남한과 북한의 사회 · 문화의 동질성을 확인할 수 있는 매개가 된다. 분단된 지 60여년이 넘었어도 가정사의 문제점은 남한이나 북한이나 비슷하다는 발견은 학습자로 하여금 현재 지니고 있는 분단 의식을 되돌아 보는 데 도움을 준다. 한편, 「삶의 향기」의 결말은 주인공이 자신의 이전 생각을 반성하면서 갈등의 해결이 암시되는 데 비해, 「빈처」의 결말은 갈등 해결여부가 모호하게 처리되어 있다. 이러한 결말의 차이는 남한 소설과 북한 소설의 존재방식의 차이에 따른 것이다. 특히 「삶의 향기」의 분명한 결말은 북한 소설의 계몽 · 교육적 성격과 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있다. 이러한 점에서 「삶의 향기」와 「빈처」의 비교 · 분석은 소설 텍스트를 문화론적인 시각, 예술론적인 시각에서 두루 살펴볼 수 있는 작업이라고 할 수 있다. 동시에 글쓰기의 유형이자 설명 방법으로서 비교와 대조의 효용을 확인하는 계기가 될 것이다.
The purpose of this study is to suggest the case of reading the North and South Korea short story in college general education. The education of reading the North and South Korea novel aims at the university students`s ability to understand North Korean society and culture for overcoming the recognition of division of Korea into north and south. Bin-Cher, it means a poor wife, is Eun-Hee-Kyoung`s short story and Sal-Mi-Hyang-Ki, it means the perfume of life, is Chung-Hyoun-Chul`s short story. Eun is South Korea`s writer and Chung is North korea`s. Two works have something in common with subject matter and a diary-motif. They confirm that North and South korea is a nation and share similar culture and the social system, for example patriarchy. But The difference of two work`s ending represents that a view of literature based social ideology is different to each other. Finally, student can write a essay about the North and South Korea short story with the method of comparisons and contrasts.
