이 논문은 1932년 김갑순과 노병운의 자살 사건이 신문의 기사, 유성기음반(SP record)의 대중서사 등으로 파생되었던 현상과 그 의미를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 당시 이 사건은 사실과 무관하게 픽션의 서사들로 재구성되고, 대중적인 문화상품으로 소비되었다. 실제의 사건을 다양한 서사들로 만들어낸 동력은 당시 여급에 대한 엘리트 남성글쓰기 주체의 관음증적 시선, 낭만적 연애에 대한 대중적 욕망이다. 그리고 이러한 서사의 형성 과정에서 근대의 번역어로서 연애의 개념은 확장되고 변용된다. 김갑순과 노병운의 자살 사건 관련 서사들은 근대기 한국의 공론장 혹은 문화장에서 사실이 다양한 발화주체의 서사적 실천에 의해 의미가 규정되고, 그것이 문화상품으로 소비되는 독특한 의사소통의 구조를 드러낸다. 특히 이 사건과 관련 서사들은 1930년대 이후 카페 여급과 지식인의 연애를 모티프로 한 서사들의 원형이기도 하다. 무엇보다도 이 사건과 관련 서사들은 인간의 행동을 전체로 조직하는 의미 구조로서 서사의 본질적 국면을 훌륭히 드러내는 사례라는 점에서 중요한 의미를 지닌다.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the phenomenon and its significance that the suicide issue of Gim, Gap-sun and Noh, Byeong-un in 1932 had been derived to the newspaper article and the popular narrative in SP record. In those days, this issue was reconstructed with narratives in fiction regardless of a fact and was consumed as popular cultural product. The driving power, which made actual case as diverse narratives, include a voyeurism-based sight in the main agent of elite man`s writing on waitress at that time and a popular desire for romantic love. Added to this a concept of love as the modernly translated language in the process of being formed this narrative is expanded and modified. Narratives related to the suicide issue of Gim, Gap-sun and Noh, Byeong-un reveal unique communication structure that a fact is prescribed a meaning by narrative practice in various utterance subjects in the public sphere or cultural sphere of Korea in the modern period and that it is consumed as cultural product. Especially, the narratives related to this case are also the prototype of narratives of having a motive as love between cafe waitress and intellect following the 1930s. In particular, the narratives related to this case have important significance in a sense of being a case, which excellently reveals the essential aspect of narrative as semantic structure of giving totality to a human being`s behavior.
