This study was done on degree adverbs, which have been frequently mentioned in research regarding spoken and written language. This study presents detailed data on the frequency and distribution of degree adverbs through categorization according to the register such as spoken language, fiction, newspaper, and academic prose. In addition, this study did more than just present simple frequencies or distributions, but also extracted data from the corpus according to the register and analyzed this data with a quantitative method to objectively describe the use of degree adverbs according to the register. To achieve this, 25 degree adverbs were first sampled in this study, and for the objectivity of the study, data for each register was extracted through the Sejong Corpus, and the research was done on approximately 3.8 million word phrases. The forms of modified words were examined to present the use of degree adverbs with descriptive function, and the meaning derived from the combination of degree adverbs and modified words were examined. The co-occurrence between degree adverbs was also investigated. The ultimate purpose of this study was to identify a problem that understood the difference in written and spoken grammar,By perceiving this problem, the study reveals that the difference in spoken and written grammar is derived from the differences in words and elements used according to the register, and that grammar does not exist individually for spoken and written language.
