The purpose of this study was to investigate the narrative characteristics from narratological perspective between the fairy tale < A Hen Comes Out of the Yard > and the animation < Leafie, A Hen into the Wild(2011) >. The fairy tale < A Hen Comes Out of the Yard > portrays the desire of escape, attacking the established ruling order throughout the main character, Leaf Bud. Additionally, it, told by an invisible storyteller, has connotations of wish and free will. The animation < Leafie, A Hen into the Wild(2011) > adopts the main plot and subject consciousness from the original picture book; however, the animation < Leafie, A Hen into the Wild(2011) > attempts to put more emphasis on the theme with the growing conflict among the characters than original picture book. Furthermore, the jocular dialogue by adding another characters and incidents, diverse camera-works, cross cutting make the animation strengthened the artistry, amusement and cinematic quality. A story is based on communication. It communicates through the differences and serves significant messages. The fairy tale < A Hen Comes Out of the Yard > and the animation < Leafie, A Hen into the Wild(2011) > are similar, but also imparity. Those differences creates meanings; therefore, I emphasis on the differences. In deed, this study focuses on the analogy(plausibility) instead of similarity(similitude) because, always, the differences are ontological and raises an axiological question and skepticism.
