본 논문에서는 현대 일본어의 부사 「べつに」를 대상으로 화자의 부정적인 심적 태도를 표명하는 <감동사적 용법>을 설정하고 <부사 용법>과의 연속성에 주목하여 「べつに」의 의미·기능을 고찰하였다. 「べつに」의 파생적인 용법인 <감동사적 용법>은 술어와 함께 쓰이지 않고 단독으로 사용되는 것이 특징적이다. 청자의 예상과는 반대되는 응답을 하는 것으로, 청자(혹은 청자의 발화내용)에 대한 무관심이나 무시, 당혹감 등 화자의 부정적인 심적 태도를 나타내는데 쓰인다. 이러한 「べつに」의 <감동사적 용법>은 <부정>에 관련되어 있다는 면에서 <부사 용법>과 연속성을 갖는다. <부사 용법>은 술어의 <부정>에 관한 것이나, <감동사적 용법>은 청자에 대한 화자의 <부정>적인 감정을 표현하는 감정표출적인 의미·기능이라 할 수 있다. 부정 술어와 공기하는 진술부사로부터 화자의 부정적인 감정을 표출하는 <감동사적 용법>이 파생하는 「べつに」의 의미변화는 흥미로운 현상이라 할 수 있다.

This article mainly discusses the meaning and function of the Japanese adverb betsuni, when used in the interjectional usage to carry expressive value relating the speaker`s negative attitude of his or her mind, by focusing on continuation of the adverbial and interjectional usages. Most typically, in the derivational interjectional usage, betsuni stands alone as an utterance, without negative predicate which it may co-occur. As a negative response against the addressee`s assumption, it shows the speaker`s negative attitude such as his or her unconcern, ignorance, embarrassment about the addressee (or the addressee`s speech). A characteristic common to both usages is that speakers use betsuni in speech event contexts in which (they think) a negative expression is required. The adverbial usage is about the predicate negation, however, the interjectional usage functions as the speaker`s negative emotional expression against the addressee`s expected reaction. The derivational meaning of betsuni in interjectional usage is an interesting role as a adverb used with a negative predicate expressing the speaker`s negative attitude or feelings.
