이나가키 타루호(Inagaki Taruho, 1900-1977, 이하 이나가키)는 근대 일본 환상문학의 대표적인 작가이다. 그의 작품 중,“La Vanille et la Manille”는 마르키스드 사드(Marquis de Sade, 1740-1814, 이하 사드)가 동일한 제목으로 썼던 편지모음집에서 유래된 것이다. 본고는 일본 근대 문학에 사드가 끼친 일반적인 영향에 대해 논의로 시작한다. 시부사와 타츠히코(Shibusawa Tatsuhiko, 1928-1987)는 사드의 작품 번역을 통해 자신의 이름을 알리게 되었는데, 그가 집필한 문학 작품 내에서 사드의 흔적을 발견해 낼 수 있었다. 작품 분석에서는 미시마 유키오(Mishima Yukio, 1925-1970)의 “사드후작부인(サド侯爵夫人, Madame de Sade)”이라는 희곡에 대해서도 논하였다. 본고의 마지막 부분에는 일본 유명 작가들이 재구성, 재해석한 사드의 이미지에 대해 다루었다. 무엇보다도, 사드가 일본 문학에 끼친 영향을 더 심도 있게 이해하기 위해서는 이나가키의 이 작품을 간과할 수 없다. 사드의 본래 제목을 이나가키 소설에 적용시킨 것은 곧, 이나가키가 사드에 대한 모방심과 존경심을 스스로 드러냈다는 사실을 의미하기 때문이다. 본고는 일본 문학 작품에 중점을 두었으며, 이나가키의 감각적인 미학과 그 자신만의 독특한 문학 세계 내에 프랑스 작가의 사상이 어떻게 스며들어갔는지에 대해 깊이 있게 연구하였다. 아울러, 초월을 시도한 일본 윤리 체계 내에 존재한 사회적인 욕구에 대해서도 논할 것이며, 사회상의 변화인 현실의 보편적인 모습에 맞선 임시적이고 지역적인 특색을 통해 이나가키가 인식한 사드의 관능성을 서술해 보일 것이다.

Inagaki Taruho (1900-1977) was one of the noted writers of modern Japanese fantasy literature. Among other works, his “La Vanille et la Manille” was a derivation of a collection of letters of Marquis de Sade(1740-1814) that bears the same title. This paper starts with the general impact of Marquis de Sade on modern Japanese literature. Shibusawa Tatsuhiko(1928-1987), for one first made his name by translating Sade`s works, and we shall therefore investigate the vestiges of Sade in Shibusawa`s own literary writings. To flank with the analysis, there will also be a discussion of a play written by Mishima Yukio (1925-1970) entitled Madame de Sade. The last work deals with a reconstruction or re-interpretation of Sade`s image by another even more famous Japanese writer. Yet, for a deeper understanding of the impact and literary fame of Sade in Japan, Inagaki Taruho`s “La Vanille et la Manille” cannot be neglected. The adoption of Sade`s original title in Inagaki`s novel is self-manifesting in revealing Inagaki`s imitation and admiration. Focusing on the Japanese novel, this paper will delve into the sensual aesthetics of Inagaki and what he has learned or appropriated in his own way from the French predecessor. There will also be discussion on the social desires enveloped in the ethical systems of Japan that attempt to transcend. Both provisional and local characteristics as versus universal features of reality that are conditioning changes in society will be charted to outline Inagaki`s perception of Sade`s sensuality.
