본고는 국어과 하위영역인 문법영역의 성격에 대해 천착해 보고 그에 따라 문법영역에 포함될 문법지식을 탐색하고 선정하는 단계에서 국어에 대한 체계적 규칙으로서의 문법지식이 필수적으로 갖추어야 할 전제 조건들을 고찰해 보았다. 우선 문법영역은 지식영역과 도구영역으로서의 이원적 성격을 가지고 있음을 재확인하였다. 문법영역은 모국어에 대한 유용한 지식을 체계적으로 제공하는 지식영역이 되어야 함과 동시에, 국어 활동에 직접적으로 기여하는 절차적 지식을 제공하는 도구영역으로서도 기능해야 한다. 또한 학문문법의 연구 성과로 구성된 문법지식이 문법영역의 교육 내용으로 변환되려면 반드시 갖추어야 할 전제 조건이 있음을 논의하였다. 문법영역의 교육 내용으로서의 문법지식은 첫째, 담화 층위의 규칙을 중심으로 제시되어야 하고 둘째, 언어적 생산 활동에서 효과적인 선택에 도움을 주는 지식이어야 하며, 셋째, 학문적 범주 구분을 지양한 지식이어야 한다. 이러한 조건을 갖춘 문법지식을 문법영역의 교육 내용으로 선정하고 설계한다면, 문법지식이 수행성을 갖게 될 것이며, 문법지식의 유용성이 교정적 차원에 그치지 않고 생산적인 언어활동에 직접적인 기여를 할 수 있다. 또한 이러한 지식은 결과적으로 교과서 편찬이나 교수·학습 차원에서 타영역과 통합적으로 교수·학습될 수 있다.
The purpose of this study was to reflect the character of the field of grammar which was one of the sub-fields in Korean language curriculum, and to discuss the essential preconditions of grammatical knowledge. At first, it was reconfirmed that the field of grammar had dualistic character as the field of knowledge and the field of method. The field of grammar as the field of knowledge should provide useful knowledge about Korean language, and the field of grammar as the field of method should provide procedural knowledge. Also, it was discussed that there should be essential preconditions for grammatical knowledge composed of the study results of academic grammar to be transformed into the educational contents of the field of grammar. Grammatical knowledge as the educational contents of the field of grammar 1) should be suggested with the rule of the level of discourse centered, 2) should be helpful for the effective choice in productive linguistic activity, 3) should be against the division of academic category. If grammatical knowledge with these conditions be selected and designed as the educational contents of the field of grammar, grammatical knowledge would have availability and the usefulness of grammatical knowledge would contribute directly to productive linguistic activity over mere level of revision. At last this kind of knowledge would be taught and learned integrally with other fields in textbook writing and teaching and learning.
