이 글은 이세춘 그룹의 음악 활동 양상을 살펴보고 여기에 나타나는 특징을 고찰한 것이다. 이세춘 그룹이란 가객(歌客) 이세춘·조욱자·지봉서·박세첨·송실솔, 금객(琴客) 김철석, 기생 추월·매월·계섬 등과 이들을 후원한 서평군(西平君) 이요·이정보·심용 등을 통칭하는 개념이다. 이세춘 그룹은 후원자, 남성 가객, 여성 가자(歌者), 악기연주자 등으로 구성되어 일정한 역할 분담이 존재한 상태에서 활동했음을 알 수 있다. 이 그룹의 활동 양상은 비슷한 시기의 김수장 그룹과 대비되는 몇 가지 특징을 보여준다. 우선 이세춘 그룹의 활동은 당대 최고 경화사족들의 적극적인 후원 속에 이루어졌다. 다음으로 이세춘 그룹은 신조(新糟)나 신성(新聲)에 적극적인 관심을 기울임으로써 18세기 음악 환경의 변화를 주도하였다. 마지막으로 이세춘 그룹은 창작보다는 가창에 전념하였기 때문에 남아 있는 작품은 극소수에 불과하다. 이상의 특징들은, 같은 중간계층들끼리 모여 동호인적 활동을 펼치면서 상당한 양의 작품을 창작하여 전하고 있는 김수장 그룹에서는 찾아볼 수 없는, 이세춘 그룹의 고유한 지점이라 할 수 있다.

This study set out to investigate the patterns of Lee, se-chun(이세춘)Group`s musical activities and their characteristics. Lee, se-chun(이세춘) Group consisted of such Gagaeks as Lee se-chun (이세춘), Jo uk-ja(조욱자), Ji bong-seo(지봉서), Park se-cheom(박세첨), and Song shil-sol(송실솔), Geumgaek Kim cheol-seok(김철석), Gisaeng Chuwol(추월), Maewol(매월), and Gyeseom(계섬), and their patrons Seopyeonggun(서평군) Lee yo(이요), Lee jeong-bo(이정보), and Shim yong(심용). Comprised of patrons, male vocalist, female singer and instrumentalists,the Group engaged in activities with certain role division among the members. The patterns of its activities had some characteristics different from those of Kim su-jang(김수장) Group in a similar period. First, the Lee se-chun(이세춘) Group engaged in activities in the active support of the highest Gyeonghwasajok(경화사족). The Group also led changes to the musical environment of the 18th century by showing active interest in Shinjo(신조) and Shinseong(신성). Finally, the Group left a very limited number of its works since it focused on singing rather than creation. Those characteristics are the unique aspects of the Lee se-chun(이세춘)Group and not found in the Kim su-jang(김수장) Group, which created and passed down a good number of works through club activities among the middle class members.
