근대전환기 학회지는 신문에 비하여 주제의식과 목적성이 뚜렷한 글들이 수록되어있다는 특징이 있다. 목적성이 뚜렷한 글들은 대부분 그 서술 방법이나 양식은 기존의 것을 준수하고 내용과 주제의식에만 초점을 맞추는 경향이 많은데, 이와는 상이한 특징을 보이는 작품들도 존재한다. 본고에서 고찰한 `고원훈`의 자유재판(自由裁判)의 누문(漏聞)-몽향필기(夢鄕筆記) 와 `송욱현`의 이조가명(以鳥假鳴) 이 그러하다. 이 두 작품은 지금까지의 연구에서 본격적으로 다루어진 바 없는 것들이다. 본고는 이 두 편을 근대전환기 학회지에서 발굴하여 작품의 특징과 의의를 밝히고자 하였다. 이 작품들은 우선 다음과 같은 측면에서 주목될만한 가치를 가진다. 첫째 이 작품들은 기존의 문학 양식으로는 설명되지 않는 다양한 양식적 특수성이 혼재되어있다는 점이다. 몽유 서사와 `토론체` 및 `연설체` 서사가 결합된 이 두 작품은 전통 서사 문학의 서술 방법과 근대전환기에 새롭게 등장한 서술 방법이 적절하게 혼합되어있다는 점에서 주목된다. 둘째 이 두 작품은 내화와 외화를 구성하는 서술 방법을 당대적 목적성을 효과적으로 드러내기 위하여 다채롭게 변용하였다. 독자들은 이 같은 변용된 방법론을 통하여 보다 효과적으로 서술자의 주제의식을 받아들일 수 있었다. 셋째 이 두 작품은 기존의 연구에서는 다루어지지 않은 것이다. 본고는 이를 고찰하는 것을 통하여 근대전환기 서사 문학 연구의 외연을 확대할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Journals in the transitional period to modern era have more clear theme and purpose compared to newspapers. Writings with clear purposes tend to comply to exiting writing types and focus on contents and themes only. On the other hand, there are some piece of works with totally different characteristics: 「Jayu jaepan ui numun (Mong hyang jeong gi)」 by Koh Won-hun and 「Yi jo ga myeong」 by Song Wuk-hyeon. Studies have not been made on them. In this paper, these two works are highlighted to identify their characteristics and meaning. They deserve attention in three aspects. First, they have a mixture of different types which are hard to be explained based on existing literature types. Mong-yu, “discussion style” and “speech style” narratives are mixed in them, which shows traditional and newly emerging narrative styles are fittingly used. Second, narratives consisting of inside and outside stories are transformed to effectively show their purpose, which makes readers to accept the themes in a better way. Third, these two works have not been the subjects of existing studies. It is expected that this paper helps to expand the scope of the narrative literature studies.
