20세기 초의 국한문체 글쓰기에서 한문전통은 실용적 작문을 위한 근간이기도 했지만, 일본 제국주의의 의도에 따라 민족주의를 탈각시키는 역할도 하였다. 당시의 다양한 자료 중에서 작문교본들은 글쓰기관습과 문화 의식의 변천을 잘 나타내는 자료이다. 근대계몽기에 한문전통은 민족주의적인 자각을 바탕으로 시대적 현안과 조화되고 있었으며 그 대표적 성과로 최재학의 국한문체 작문교본인 『실지응용작문법(實地應用作文法)』을 들 수 있다. 그러나 1910년의 한일병합을 전환점으로 한문전통의 능동적 적용은 수구적이거나 친일적인 방향으로 퇴보하게 된다. 이각종의 『실용작문법(實用作文法)』과 이종린의 『문장체법(文章體法)』은 이 과정을 잘 보여주는 국한문체 작문교본들이다. 특별히 전자는 일본 혼용문의 한국 글쓰기에 대한 모범으로 삼았으며, 그 내용에서도 일본제국주의에 대한 적극적 협조의 성격이 드러난다. 1910년대 문체 상황에서 가장 강력한 교본이었던 『시문독본』에서 한문전통이 약화되었던 것도 자연스러운 상황이었다 하겠다.

About Korean-Chinese writing in early 20th century, the tradition of classical-Chinese is adopted as the essential foundation for practical writing however it also can be the medium to neutralize nationalistic notion for the sake of Japanese Imperialism. Among the diverse references of this era, rhetorics are one of the most important document to represent the transformation of the writing convention and the notion of the cultural tradition. In Korean modern enlightenment era, the tradition of classical-Chinese is adopted actively in accordance with contemporary matters with keen notion of nationalism. As the representative accomplishment of such adoption, I list Choe Jaehak`s Siljieungyongjakmunbeop. However, at the turning point, the Japanese annexation of Korean peninsular in 1910, such active adoption of the tradition is degenerates to retrospective with pro-imperialistic aspects. I Gakjong`s Silyongjakmunbeop and I Jongrin`s Munjangchaebeop notably represents such degeneration of Korean-Chinese writing whose adoption of the classical-Chinese tradition lack active and nationalistic point of views. Especially, the former cleary exhibits the colonization of Japanese writing and the collaboration to Japanese Imperialism. Hence, the rebate of the classical- Chinese tradition is natural process which is appeared in Simundokbon, the most influential rhetoric of 1910s style transformations.
