1930년대 식민지 도시공간을 배경으로 한 이상의 문학에서 `화폐(돈)`의 모티프와 그에 관한 형상화의 문제는 G. 짐멜의 `감각의 사회학`이라는 개념을 도입하여 논의를 심화시킬 수 있다. 짐멜은 화폐의 제도를 기반으로 한 자본주의 체제의 도시공간 안에서 신체의 감각기관에 의해 수용되는 다양한 삶의 현상과 과정을 사회적 상호작용의 합으로 간주하면서 사회학적 지평 안에서 개별 주체가 수행하는 감각의 활동이 사회적 상호작용을 구성하는 중요한 형식임을 강조한다. 이렇게 볼 때 이상의 문학 곳곳에 시각과 청각과 후각 등의 감각적 이미지들로 표출된 언어들은 1930년대 식민지 자본주의 도시공간에서 화폐를 매개로 교환되는 사회적 상호관계의 의미를 특별하게 구성한다. 화폐 물신성과 감각의 모더니티라는 상관관계에서 이상 문학이 20세기 한국 근대문학의 흐름에서 가장 이질적이면서도 풍요로운 어떤 지점이 있다면 그것은 식민지 자본주의 도시의 시·공간적 좌표에서 새롭게 유입되고 확산되는 근대문명의 현상과 그 구성항목들을 동시대의 어느 작가보다도 첨예한 시선과 의식, 그리고 언어 감각으로 포착하여 형상화했다는 데에 있다. 그런 의미에서 이상 문학에 반영된 화폐 물신성과 그에 대한 감각적 반응, 그리고 메타포를 통한 언어적 표현 형태는 1930년대 도시공간에 편재된 사회적 상호관계의 소외 현상과 인간관계의 탈맥락화가 이루어지는 비극성의 기원을 새로운 문학 형식에 담아 창조해낸 것으로 정리할 수 있다. 화폐 물신성과 감각의 모더니티라는 관점에서 이상 문학은 1930년대 식민지 도시공간에서 생성되고 분출되는 주체의 자의식 과잉과 분열의 사회학을 새로운 감각의 언어로 전복하여 구성해낸 사례로 평가할 수 있다.

This article aims to study the aspects of money fetishism and modernity of sense in Yi-Sang`s Literature (YSL). If we introduce Georg Gimmel`s `Soziologie der sinne (Sociology of sense)` concept to make an analysis of this main subject, we can discuss the problem of `money motive` in YSL more deeply. G. Gimmel perceived the various phenomena and the process of life registered by our physical sensory organs in urban spaces based on the monetary system of modern capitalism as the sum of all social interactions. As well, he emphasized that the sensory organ-informed activities carried out by the individual subjects allow them to reflect on the important methods of organizing social interactions in the sociological field. So long as we accept G. Gimmel`s opinion, words represented by sensory images through sight, hearing, smell, and so on organize the meaning of social interrelationships being exchanged through the intermediary of money in the urban spaces of Kyeong-seong [京城, Seoul] in the context of colonial capitalism in the 1930s. If we were to place YSL within the most heterogeneous and flowing stream of 20^th century Korean modern literature as we have discussed in the context of the interrelationship between the concepts called money fetishism and modernity of sense, that would probably be in his grasping and radically shaping the phenomenon of modern civilization and the constitutional minutiae flowing and diffused in time and space of colonial capitalism than any other contemporary writer. It is in this context that we can arrange our discussion about money fetishism and modernity of sense around YSL. That is, YSL created the tragic origin of property in terms of new literary forms, and it embodies the alienation of social relationships and the de-contextualization of human relationships that were omnipresent in 1930s urban space through its own original literary expression. Consequently, YSL may be evaluated as the rarest example of the expression of the sociology of dissociation through the new sensibility, in the context of literary discourse on money fetishism and the modernity of sense in 20^th century Korean modern literature.
