소춘 김기전은 1920년대 가장 활발한 활동을 벌였던 이론가 가운데 한 사람이었고, 동시에 열정적인 종교사상가이자 민족운동가이기도 했다. 다양한 경로를 통해 발표된 그의 사유는 깊이와 역동성을 갖춘 것으로서 한국근현대사상사 내지 철학사의 견지에서 의당 주목해야 할 가치를 지니며, 나아가 이 시기 사상사의 지형을 재구성함에 있어 중요한 단초를 제공하는 것이기도 하다. 김기전은 서구 철학 및 사상을 소개하고 도입하는 `수용사`적 맥락에서도 중요한 위상을 지닌다. 서구 철학·이론·사상을 직접적으로 소개했을 뿐 아니라 이를 독창적으로 이해하고 수용한 흔적도 분명하게 나타나기 때문이다. 특히 이러한 독자적 수용의 특징은 서구 이론을 직접 소개하는 글 이외의 다른 글에서 더 분명하게 나타난다. 김기전을 비롯하여 동시대 지성들에게 공통적인 이 특징에 주목할 때, 한국근현대철학사 및 사상사에서 나타나는 수용 경향을 어떻게 분석해야 하는지에 관한 중요한 단초를 발견할 수 있다. 서구 이론가의 이름과 개념을 직접 거론함으로써 이목을 끄는 글들, 하지만 일본 등 외국의 책을 번역하거나 발췌하여 전하는 글들을 통해, 김기전이 서구 철학 및 사상을 체화한 정도와 깊이는 발견될 수 없다. 오히려 그러한 체화의 흔적, 즉 창의적인 이해와 해석이 나타나는 진정한 `수용`의 증거는 전혀 다른 주제와 형식의 글 속에 담겨 있는 경우가 더 많다. 따라서 서구 철학 및 사상의 `수용` 양상은 서구 이론을 직접적으로 소개하고 도입하는 텍스트와 더불어 전혀 다른 범주에 속하는 텍스트를 유기적으로, 그리고 전체적으로 독해할 때 비로소 그 진상을 드러낸다고 할 수 있다. 김기전의 저술 전체를 분석·분류하고 전체적으로 조망하는 작업이 불가피한 이유가 여기에 있다. 소춘 김기전의 저술과 사유는 그 자체로도 한국근현대철학사 및 사상사의 지평에서 상당히 의미있는 것이지만, 이처럼 사상사의 조망 및 정립과 관련해서도 중요한 시사를 던져 주는 일종의 전범典範이다.

Sochun Kim Gijeon was one of the most active theorists of the 1920s, and at the same time was a passionate religious thinker and national activist. His thought, which had been presented through various paths, has depth and dynamism. So It is not only worthy of attention in terms of the history of modern philosophy and thoughts, but also provides an important clue in forming the proper perspective on the structure of this period`s thoughts. Kim Gijeon has a significant status in `histoy of acceptance of Western theory`, because he made a certain contribution to introducing and publicizing Western philosophy, theory, and thought. However, the traces and characteristics of such acceptance are dispersed in various articles, besides the texts that introduce the Western philosophy, theory and thought. These were a common feature of Sochun and most of the intellects of that time. When we look at these characteristics, we could find a important clue how to analyze the tendency of `acceptance` in the history of Korean modern philosophy or Korean modern thought`s history. It is not possible to find the evidence of Sochun`s introjecting the Western philosophy and thought through the writings that attract attention by introducing and mentioning the concepts and names of Western theorists. Because those texts were mostly extracted from Japanese books or the simple translations of them. Rather, the evidence of such `introjecting`, and thus the evidence of true `acceptance` that includes the creative understanding and interpretation, is more often contained in writings of totally different themes and forms. Therefore, the true picture of `acceptance` of Western philosophy and thought can be come out only when we read organically the articles directly introducing Western theories and the texts belonging to completely different categories as a whole. The writings and thoughts of Sochun Kim Gijeon, in and of itself, are quite meaningful in the history of Korean modern philosophy and thoughts, but it is a sort of ideal model that gives important insights into the proper view of that history.
