본 연구는 연극동아리 활동에 참여한 발달장애인의 여가경험 과정을 분석하고 이론적 틀을 제시하여 구체적인 여가지원방안을 모색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 여가활동으로 연극동아리에 참여중인 발달장애인 9명을 대상으로 질적 연구를 실시하였고, 근거이론적 방법을 적용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 질적 분석에 사용한 자료는 심층면담, 현장노트, 반성적 일지이다. 분석의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 발달장애인의 연극동아리 여가경험을 분석한 결과, 133개의 개념어와 23개의 하위범주, 9개의 범주가 도출되었다. 둘째, 발달장애인은 `거듭되는 불안과 걱정`, `여전히 부족한 나`의 인과적 조건에 따라 맥락적 조건인 `끊임없는 노력`에 의해 `두려움에 맞서기`라는 중심현상이 드러났다. 또한 중재적 조건인 `멀고도 가까움`과 `혼자보다 여럿이`는 `연극동아리 여가활동의 가치`라는 작용·상호작용 전략을 경험하도록 하였고 그 결과는 `꿈의 실현`, `행복한 삶의 주인공`으로 나타났다. 셋째, 발달장애인의 연극동아리 활동을 통한 여가경험은 `불안과 걱정`, `노력과 변화`, `가치의 발견`, `행복의 추구` 4단계로 확인되었다. 전체적인 이야기 윤곽의 전개를 통해 드러난 핵심범주는 `한계를 딛고 행복한 여가의 주인공으로 성장하기` 이다. 마지막으로 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결과를 토대로 발달장애인의 여가활동에 관한 후속연구를 제언하였다.

The purpose of this study is analyzing the process of the people with developmental disabilities` leisure experience through play club activity and suggesting theoretical frame to seek for a concrete leisure supporting plan. This qualitative study was conducted for the 9 people with developmental disabilities participating in play club as a leisure activity, and collected data were analyzed using grounded theory approach. In-depth interview, field-note, and reflective journal were used for qualitative analyze. The results of this study were as follows. First, by analyzing the play club leisure experience of the people with developmental disabilities, 133 concepts were showed and 23 sub-categories and 9 categories were extracted. Second, people with developmental disabilities showed the major phenomenon `Facing the fear` by contextual condition `Unceasing efforts` according to the casual condition `Constant anxiety and worry` and `Me, still insufficient`. Also, conciliatory conditions `Being so close yet so far` and `Being together than alone` allowed experiencing interaction strategy `Value of play club`, and the results were `Fulfilment of dream` and `Main character of happy life`. Third, the leisure experience through play club activity of the people with developmental disabilities was verified as 4 steps(`Worry and anxiety`, `Effort and change`, `Discovery of value`, `Pursuit of happiness`). The core category drawn by overall story telling was `Overcoming the limitations, growing up into the main agent of leisure`. Last, on the basis of the results, this study suggests future research about people with developmental disabilities` leisure activity.
