본 연구는 2000년 이후 발표된 한국어교육 연구물 분석을 통해 한국어교육 연구 영역을 살펴보는 데에 목적이 있다. 한국어교육 연구는 한국어교육 현장의 역사와 함께 발전하고 영향을 받을 수밖에 없다. 지금까지 수행된 한국어교육 연구 동향을 살펴봄으로써 한국어교육학의 연구 영역들에 대한 논의가 가능할 것이다. 한국어교육 연구 분야의 연구 영역을 규명하기 위하여 한국어교육 연구가 활발히 수행된 2000년 이후 발표된 석·박사 학위 논문과 학술지 논문 7,681편을 연구 유형별(학위논문, 학술지) 동향, 연도별 연구 동향, 주제별 연구 동향 등을 살펴보았다. 연구 동향 분석 결과 크게 `한국어교육 일반`, `한국어교육 내용`, `교수학습` 등 세 가지 주제 영역으로 분류할 수 있었으며 `한국어교육 일반`은 여섯 가지 하위 주제로 `한국어교육 내용`은 아홉 가지 하위 주제로 `교수학습`은 열 가지 하위 주제로 나눌 수 있었다. 2000년 이후 새로이 등장한 하위 주제 등 한국어교육 연구 영역이 다양화되는 경향이 나타났다.

Research on Korean language education is closely tied to the actual practice of teaching Korean as a language. Through examining the previous research carried thus far, academic domains of Korean Education research could be discussed. The purpose of this study is to analyze existing research of Korean language education from the year 2000 to present and to parse their findings into discrete academic domains categorically. These academic domains were identified through a study of 7,681 dissertations and academic journals on Korean language education by categorizing each text according to research type, research subject, and yearly trends. The following four domains were identified as a result General Korean Education Issues, Korean Education Content, Korean Language Teaching and Learning. General Korean Education Issues is comprised of 6 sub-research topics, whereas Korean Education Content is comprised of 9 sub-research topics and Korean Language Teaching and Learning is comprised of 10 sub-research topics. Overall, it is evident that a variety of research domains have emerged regarding Korean language education since 2000.
