본 연구는 1980년대에 발표된 박완서의 두 작품 ≪오만과 몽상≫(1982)과 ≪그해 겨울은 따뜻했네≫(1983)를 중심으로 빈곤을 재생산하는 메커니즘을 밝히고 그에 따른 가난의 기원을 탐색하는데 있다. 이들 작품은 80년대를 관통하는 `눈부신` 경제발전이 초래한 문제를 정확하게 예단하고 있으며 그러한 문제를 어떻게 해결해야 하는지에 대한 나름의 해결책을 제시하고 있다. 특히 이 작품들은 추상적인 가난과 현실적인 가난을 인식하는 태도에서 발생하는 차이를 극명하게 드러내고 있으며 `바닥가난`이라는 용어를 사용하여 도시빈민의 열악한 상황을 구체화 시켜 보여준다. 이것은 도시빈민의 문제점을 적극적으로 부각시키는 동시에 가난에 대해 가지는 기존의 시각에 대한 통렬한 비판이 된다. 이 작품들은 빈자와 부자를 가르는 심연이 지닌 비밀을 파헤쳐서 가난에 대한 이데올로기가 지닌 모순을 밝히고 이러한 이데올로기에 의해 작동되는 가난할 수밖에 없는 운명이라는 통념에 대해 제고하게 한다. 가난은 특정한 원인에 의한 것이 아니라 결과로 작용하며 가난한 사람들에게 갖는 편견은 오로지 가난이라는 결과에 의해 소급적으로 적용된 것에 불과하다는 것을 말이다. 박완서는 배설물이나 해충으로 취급당하며 공동체 안에서 배제되고 있는 빈민을 위한 구제책으로 빈민을 만든 부자들의 연대의식을 촉구하고 그에 따른 자선 행위의 강제성에 대해 긍정한다. 이러한 일시적인 행위는 미봉책으로 보일 수도 있으나 속물적인 자선행위가 지니는 전복성을 통해 복지의 개념에 대한 새로운 접근을 모색할 수 있도록 한다.
The purpose of this study on the basis of The Origin of Poverty and Urban Poor`s Aspects in Park, Wan-seo`s Novels is to illuminate the significance of literature. In 1980s Park, Wan-seo`s two novels, ≪Arrogance and Daydream≫ and ≪The Winter of the Year was Warm≫ are treated problems of the urban poor which has been excluded from development and progress. In two of the Park, Wan-seo works published in the 1980s, are the works by emerging in front of the lives of the urban poor out this release allows insight into the problems of poverty reveals the origins of poverty. Park, Wan-seo continually tried to reproduce the problem of the urban poor, especially in the work it was noted that the two works is because the work is released out deeper than appreciated, showing the depth of the problem of the urban poor and poorer than previous work. Park, Wan-seo is a devastating critique of the existing vision has to the abstract and realistic poverty and wealth against poverty`s life `the bottom` use of the term, while at the same time highlighting the problems of poor urban poor actively in this work. Park, Wan-seo urges the fellowship of the rich with the poor made remedies for the poor and give to charity act accordingly. These temporary behavior enables a new approach to the concept of universal welfare.
