본 연구는 인용과 관련된 문제를 정리하기 위해 인용이 언어 표현과 관련하여 사용(use)이 아닌 언급(mention)에 해당한다는 점에 대해 논한다. 그리고 이는 국어 화자의 언어 능력을 이해하고 체계화하는 데 주요한 준거로 삼을 수 있다는 점을 토대로 기존 인용 교육의 문제를 되짚어 보고자 하였다. 인용은 누군가의 말, 글, 생각을 빌려서 나타나는 경우가 많지만 화자 자신의 생각을 표현하는 경우를 생각할 때 일반적인 문장 표현과의 구분이 어려운 지점이 나타난다. 따라서 인용을 정의할 때는 인용 표지, 인용 동사, 인용문 등과 같은 형식적인 기준이 필요할 수밖에 없다. 이와 관련하여 학교 문법에서는 인용 표지의 문법적 특성, 인용 동사의 유형, 인용절의 통사적 특성 등이 주로 논의의 대상이 되어 왔다. 이때 인용 표지는 인용격 조사로 보는 관점과 어미로 보는 관점이 있지만, 주격 조사, 목적격 조사, 보격 조사, 서술격 조사를 설정하고 조사가 격을 드러내는 것으로 기술하고 있는 학교 문법의 태도를 고려할 때 인용 표지를 인용격 조사로 다루는 것이 기존 학교 문법의 틀에 맞다고 할 수 있다. 또 인용절의 경우에는 명사절로 볼 것인가 부사절로 볼 것인가가 대립하고 있는데 이는 인용절이 가지고 있는 내용과 형식 가운데 어디에 초점을 두느냐와 관련이 있으므로 교육 내용 역시 이러한 지점에 주목해야 한다.

This study discusses that quotation is related to `mention` rather than `use`. The purpose of this study is to solve the problem of existing quotation education based on the fact that it can be a main criterion for understanding and systematizing the language ability of Korean speakers. Quotations are often borrowed from someone`s words, writings, or thoughts, but if you think about expressing your own thoughts, you may find it difficult to distinguish them from common sentence expressions. Therefore, when defining quotations, formal standards such as quotation marks, quotation verb, quotations, etc. are required. In relation to citation in school grammar, the grammatical characteristics of the quotation mark, the type of the quotation verb, and the syntactic characteristics of the quotes have been discussed. Although the quotation marks have a point of view as a quotation postposition and a point of view as a ending, when considering the attitude of the school grammar which describes the quotation postposition. It can be said that the handling of quotations is in line with the existing school grammar framework. In the case of a quotation, there is a confrontation between whether it is a noun clause or an adverbial clause, which is related to the content and format of the quotation.
