이 글의 목적은 우리나라에 구비 전승되고 있는 설화 <쥐좆도 모른다>와 인도의 수행자인 바바 하리 다스의 <성자가 된 청소부>를 비교 검토하여 두 작품의 관계 양상을 드러내면서, 이를 통하여 <쥐좆도 모른다>로부터 <성자가 된 청소부>로 이어질 수 있는 가짜의 성장과 그 문학치료적 의미를 밝히는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 이 글에서는 가짜의 성장 가능성 탐색이 갖고 있는 의미는 과연 무엇인지에 집중한다. 우리는 어떤 대상을 인생의 롤모델을 삼고, 어느 순간 이상화 된 대상의 자리에 옮겨갈 수도 있을 것이다. 하지만 자신의 정체성을 정립하지 않는 한 영원히 가짜로 낙인이 찍히면서 소멸될 위기에 처하게 된다. 그렇기에 진짜에 대한 모방은 가짜의 미미함을 벗어날 수 있는 데 기여해야하고, 진짜를 모방하는 삶의 시간 속에서 가짜는 새로운 진짜가 될 수 있는 기회를 얻어야 한다. <성자가 된 청소부>는 청소부였던 자반은 청소부겸 병원의 잡역부와 같은 피터의 자리로 옮겨가면서 이전의 피터보다 더 훌륭한 인상을 심어주는 긍정적인 가짜상을 실천하게 된다. 나아가 <성자가 된 청소부>의 자반은 피터의 삶을 대신 살면서 자기를 돌아보는 성찰을 하게 된다. 궁극적으로 가짜 피터였던 자반이 진짜 피터보다 더 수행적인 모습을 갖게 되면서 피터로서의 삶을 벗어나 성자로 거듭나게 된다. 가짜로서의 삶을 살았던 과정이 자반의 성장의 기점으로 바뀌게 되는 계기를 마련한 것이다. 이것이 바로 가짜의 성장을 탐색하는 의의가 된다. 우리들은 아직 안정되지 않은 상황에 있는 한 진짜 내가 아니라 누군가를 흉내 내고 있는 나의 삶에 머물러 있는 것일 수 있다. 문제는 누군가를 흉내 내는 것에 있는 것이 아니라 그것이 흉내에 그친다는 데 있다. 만일 흉내가 아니라 흉내의 경험을 통하여 새로운 일정, 새로운 삶에 대한 희망과 계기를 얻게 된다면 가짜로 살아가던 삶은 매우 중요한 과정이 된다. 이제 이글의 결론을 요약해본다면, <쥐좆도 모른다>는 자기서사의 건강성을 회복하기 위한 과정 중에서도 특히 좌절과 승리의 서사에 기울어져 있다면, <쥐좆도 모른다>와 유사한 흐름을 보여주는 <성자가 된 청소부>는 상생의 서사를 보여주는 작품임을 알 수 있다는 것이다. 그래서 <쥐좆도 모른다>에서 <성자가 된 청소부>로의 연결은 자기서사의 성장이라는 문학치료적 효과를 실천할 수 있는 작품군으로 활용가능하리라 전망된다.

The purpose of this article is the growth of mimesis which can lead to < Cleaning Man who became a Saint(성자가 된 청소부) > from < Gyjotdo morenta > and its meaning, by emerging some relations through the comparison of the works between the tale < Gyjotdo morenta(쥐좆도 모른다) > which be handed down orally and < Cleaning Man who became a Saint(성자가 된 청소부) > Baba Hari Dass who is a Hindu trainee. Especially, this article is one step ahead of the discussion, "To whom is the work < Gyjotdo morenta(쥐좆도 모른다) > to be efficient?", tried to get to the literary therapeutic meaning and characteristic of the epic of the work < Gyjotdo morenta(쥐좆도 모른다) > in my earlier research. Because, I suggested, in this article, what is the connecting point of < Gyjotdo morenta(쥐좆도 모른다) > in the changing process of the epic of self.
