본 연구는 Strindberg의 희곡 『Froken Julie』(1888)의 주(主)무대인 `집`을 통해 공간에 대한 시각을 재정립하는 과정으로서, 그리고 남성중심성을 해체하는 인식론적 과정으로서, `부엌, 침실, 창고, 정원` 등에 대한 세부적인 접근을 시도하였다. 이러한 시도로서 영화장면과 연극무대를 종합하여 공간을 스케치함으로써 문학작품 속 공간을 실체화(實體化)하였다. 이 중에서도 `부엌`은 여성의 일상이자 기능의 공간에서 지배자와 피지배자의 권력투쟁공간이자 남성과 여성의 마찰공간이 된다. 더 나아가 부엌의 창문은 헤테로토피아적인 공간으로 여성과 하인이라는 굴레의 해방적 설정으로서 자유에의 갈망, 혹은 억압의 해방을 의미한다. 그 다음으로 `정원`은 여성성을 반영하는 대표적인 공간으로서, 현실을 의미하는 부엌과는 대조되는 이상향이자 공적 공간과 사적 공간의 경계를 넘어서는 제3의 공간으로서 역시 헤테로토피아적인 공간이다. 한편 정원에서 이루어진 그녀의 자살은 자신의 과거를 지우고 이와는 다른 공간(사후 공간)으로 탈출하고자 하는 욕망의 표현으로 간주될 수 있다. 본고는 19세기의 작품을 통해 분석함으로써 당시의 여성적 공간에 대한 시각을 완전히 배제할 순 없지만 여성의 공간에 대한 사유방식의 재검토 차원에서 이루어진 페미니스트 연구로서의 의의가 있다.

This study attempted to apply specific approach on kitchen, bedroom, storage and garden as a process of reestablishing vision on space through `home,` the main stage of Strindberg`s 『Miss Julie』(1888), and as an epistemic process which breaks up male-centrality. In particular, `Kitchen` is a space of women`s daily routine and functions. It also becomes a space of power struggle between the ruler and the ruled as well as a space of conflict between men and women. Furthermore, a kitchen window is a heterotopic space which symbolizes desire for freedom or liberation from repression with liberalistic setting on bridle between women and servants. `Garden` is a typical space for reflecting femininity. It is also heterotopic as an ideal type which is contracted with the kitchen that represents reality and third space which exceeds the boundary between private and public spaces. Her suicide at the garden can be interpreted as the expression of her desire to erase her past and escape to the other space. This study analyzed the works from the 19th century so that it would not be able to rule out all the views on feminine spaces at that time. Even so, it is meaningful as a feminist study which has been performed for reexamining a way of thinking about women`s space.
