This study aimed at investigating trends on PISA assessment framework in reading as focusing on PISA 2000, PISA 2009 and PISA 2008. In those PISA cycles, reading was/is a main domain so that new reading framework and items were/are developed as reflecting socioeconomic change. Looking into trends, we prospect where reading research and practice in educational field move for. In addition, we can gain insights into what factors are to enhance reading competencies in 21st century.
Comparing to PISA 2000 and PISA 2009, new reading framework and items for PISA 2018 are composed of new elements as follows: 1) scenario based reading assessment 1) navigation indices to comprehend multiple texts via hyperlinks 3) synthesizing texts through author`s own perspective. In order to enhance students` reading competency, the following suggestions were provided: enlarge reading theory to goal-oriented reading in given real world situation. In-depth study on navigation indices to guarantee searching relevant information from webpage. Finally, I suggest reader as an author for new text takes his/her own authorship to synthesize multiple texts where diverse perspectives exist.
