영화문학 <월미도〉는 단순히 `북한 영화`가 아니다 21세기 들어서서도 남과 북에서 새삼 논의되고 있다. 이 글은 영화 <월미도>서사에 담긴 의미를 분석하기 위해 먼저 영화의 서사 분석에 이어 그 밑절미가 된 원작 소설 <불타는 섬〉의 서사를 짚어보고 영화와 소설 사이의 서사적 차이를 분석했다. 이어 작품서사 차이가 어떤 `효과`로 나타나는지에 대해 김일성대학 출신의 "자기서사` 변화 사례를 분석하과, 커뮤니케이션학계의 `효과 이론에` 근거해 서사 변화께 담긴 의미를 제시했다. 연구 결과, 영화 <월미도>와 소설 <불타는 섬〉은 장르의 차이로만 보기엔 서사적 차이가 심각하다는 점에서, 북의 공식 평가와 달리 <월미도〉는 원작소설의 고갱이를 담아내지 못한 퇴행적 작품이라고 평가할 수 있다. 주체사상 또는 유일사상에 근거한 수령 중심의 서사는 효과에 한계가 있을 수밖에 없다. 인간 개개인이 자기 서사를 지니고 있다면, 문학적 퇴행은 곧 사회구성원 개개인에게 삶의 빈곤으로 다가올 수 있다. 영화 <월미도〉가 원작인 소설 <불타는 섬〉에 없는 개인숭배를 과도하게 부각함으로써 영화의 효과는 물론, 영화를 감상한 사람들의 자기서사에도 부정적 영향을 끼쳤다고 평가할 수 있다.

< Walmeedo > is not simply a North Korean movie. It has become a hot topic in South and North Korea in the 21st century. This paper analyzes the message of this movie. It also compares it to the original novel, 〈Burning Island〉, which was published during the Korean War. The difference between the film < Walmeedo > and the original novel 〈Burning Island〉is not simply a matter of genre. The movie overemphasizes the idolization of the North Korean leader, Kim II Sung, unlike the original novel. The main character in the screen picture asserts that the country is nothing without the General. All the characters have to fight and die for General Kim II Sung. The songs praising him are repeated. Unlike the movie, the original novel, 〈Burning Island〉, focuses on the love of young men and women who meet on the battlefield. They choose to die for their country and people, and not for General Kim II Sung. The difference between the movie and the novel also influenced the communication effect. North Korea`s intellectual, who graduated from Kim II Sung University and came to South Korea, significantly changed “the epic of self.” For example, he thought North Korean troops were heroes after watching the movie < Walmeedo > in Pyongyang. However, after examining the war materials in Seoul, he decided that North Korean troops were no heroes. He thought they were cowards, the real heroes were rather the US troops who succeeded in the Incheon Landing Operations. This paper analyzed the difference in meaning between the screen picture, < Walmeedo >, and the 1 novel, 〈Burning Island〉, based on the Effect of Communication theory. Research shows that, unlike North Korea`s official stance, < Walmeedo > can be evaluated as a regressive work that does not reflect the message of〈Burning Island〉. The epic based on the idolization of Kim II Sung and the principle of Juche is bound limit communication effect. One-sided propaganda in the novel and the movie result in the opposite effect. < Walmeedo > had a negative impact on `the epic of self of those who watched it. Novels and movies should be based on the truth of the people. Then there is an effect.
