This study aims to examine women`s literary works from the Heian period in terms of the aesthetics of old age. First of all, from the old-age image appearing in the essay, `Makuranososhi`, the author`s writing style of Sei Shonagon is lacking in consideration or sympathy for the elderly and has a strong inclination to evaluate old age through superficial phenomena rather than the essence. The manner that was going to watch the aspect objectively is strongly seen than Sei ShonagonI express sympathy while putting feelings into a partner. And she strongly criticize a person doing the behavior that does not fit an old person. Then, in `Murasakishikibu Nikki`, the author described her own old-age aspects while distinguishing herself from young people, and her description about old age in the diary can be regarded as a process of the authors` earnestly seeking the aesthetics of ideal old age. When own old age was conscious of, Murasakishikibu was going to never appear before the noble of the man. But she show a sense of beauty of the deep sorrow to show the sympathy that is not negative in the state of the bureaucratic old age of the old man. Overall, through each literary work, this study intended to examine those who arrived at senescence before death and what their lives were like from the viewpoint of people around them in terms of the aesthetics of old age.
