근래에 인공지능의 발전과 함께 포스트휴머니즘에 대한 논의가 무성한 것 같다. 사실 우리가 알고 있는 종교는 인간 개념과 이에 부합하는 신 개념 또는 초자연적 개념에 기초한 것이다. 따라서 인간 개념이 부서지기 시작하고 있다면, 이에 연결되는 신 개념이나 초자연적 개념 역시 붕괴될 수밖에 없을 것이다. 이렇게 볼 때 `포스트휴먼`에 대한 이야기는 자연스럽게 `포스트-갓(post-god)`이나 `포스트-릴리전(post-religon)`에 대한 이야기를 불러올 수밖에 없다. 이러한 시선에서 이 글은 `인간 이후`가 낳을 `종교 이후`와 `신 이후`의 문제를 논의하기 위한 기초적인 맥락을 만들려는 작은 노력이다. 인공지능이라는 과학적 발전의 결과물에 종교라는 상상계를 덧칠하는 것은 위험한 일이기도 하다. 자칫 `과학 신화` 또는 `과학 종교`로 내몰리기 쉬울 뿐만 아니라, 과학을 빙자한 새로운 종교적 종말론으로 비난받을 수도 있기 때문이다. 그러나 과학은 사회 속에서 고립되어 존재한 적이 없다. 오히려 과학은 항상 종교적 상상력을 자극했고, 역으로 종교적 상상력의 자극을 받았다. 과학의 발전은 항상 새로운 형태의 종교성을 출현시키는 매개물이기도 했다. 그리고 그러한 새로운 종교성은 과학의 내부와 외부 모두에서 발아했다. 그러므로 인공지능이 창조하고 있는 종교적 담론에 종교학이 주목하지 않을 이유는 없다. 물론 현실의 발전이 상상대로 이루어질 리는 만무하다. 그러나 우리는 이미 일정한 `변화의 기운`을 감지하고 있다. 인간의 관계 방식이 온라인과 오프라인으로 이원화 되고 있고, 가상의 세계도 더 이상 현실의 복제가 아니라 자율적인 영역으로 구축되고 있으며, 인간과 기계의 관계 방식 역시 달라지고 있다. 이제 기계 없는 인간은 불가능하다. 우리는 오늘날 과학기술의 이면에서 작용하는 종교적 상상력의 여러 갈래를 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 이를 위해 이 글은 인공지능의 발전과 연결된 인간 개념, 신 개념, 종교 개념의 변화를 간략히 스케치하고 있다.

Recently, as the technology of artificial intelligence develops rapidly, the discourse of posthumanism is getting increasingly popular. In fact, what we call religion is based on the particular concepts of god or the supernatural, which are closely inter-related with the concept of the human. Therefore, if the concept of the human is dissolved, the concepts of the god or the supernatural cannot also be held in the traditional contexts. Accordingly, the discussions about “the posthuman”naturally lead us to ask about the post-god or the post-religion. From this point of view, this article attempts to formulate the context where we can conjecture `after religion` or `after god` brought about by `after human`. It is a little dangerous to envelop artificial intelligence in religious imagination. This not only easily ends up in the scientific myth or scientific religion, but also is likely to be undervalued as a new kind of religious eschatology. But science has never been alone in society. Science has always encouraged the religious imagination, and vice versa. The scientific development has always been a medium and agent for appearance of new modes of the religiosity. Furthemore, this new religiosities has grown both within and outside of science itself. Therefore, religious studies cannot fail to focus on the religious discourse associated with artificial intelligence. It is no wonder that the reality develops in different directions from the imagination. But we are in the midst of progressive changes. The way of human relation is divided into online and offline, and virtual world is no longer the mimesis of reality but is being constructed into autonomous sphere, and the way of interaction of the human and the machine is changing considerably. Now, the human cannot live without the machine. And today we must have an eye for distinguishing the different religious imaginations growing behind scientific technology. To this purpose, this article briefly describes how the development of artificial intelligence may change the concept of the human, the concept of god, and the concept of religion.
