이 논문은 함대훈 소설의 전체적인 지형을 파악하고 그 특징을 살펴보는 연구이다. 함대훈 소설은 대체로 통속적이라는 평가를 받았기 때문에 본격적인 연구가 거의 이루어지지 않았다. 특정한 주제와 몇몇 작품에 대한 단편적인 논의만 이루어졌을 뿐이다. 이 논문은 연구대상을 확대하여, 함대훈 소설의 전체적인 작품을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 우선 함대훈 소설의 전체 목록을 작성하였다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 함대훈 소설의 특징을 살펴보았다. 함대훈 소설은 기본적으로 연애 이야기를 바탕으로 하고 있다. 함대훈 소설은 진정한 사랑이 가능한가, 라는 당대의 전형적인 질문에 새로운 대답을 제시하였다. 여성들의 타락으로 진정한 사랑은 늘 실패한다는 것이 당대의 전형적 인식이라면, 함대훈 소설에서는 남성이 순정을 지키려고 노력하면 진정한 사랑도 가능하다는 인식이 드러난다. 전자가 당시 불안한 현실의 원인을 타자의 잘못으로 돌리고 타자를 공격하는 태도라면, 후자는 불안한 현실을 해피엔딩이라는 환상으로 봉합하는 태도다. 함대훈 소설은 사랑에 대한 새로운 관점을 보여주었다는 점에서 의의를 가지지만, 현실의 불안을 환상으로 봉합했다는 점에서는 한계를 지녔다고 평가할 수 있다.

This paper is a study to understand the whole characteristics of Ham Daehoon`s novels and to analyze their features. Since Ham Daehoon`s novels were generally regarded as popular, little research has been done until nowadays. A few essays have studied about a specific topic with limited works in Ham`s novels. This thesis expanded the subject of the study and analyzed the overall works of Ham Daehoon`s novels. First of all, I made a complete list of the novels. Based on this, I examined the characteristics of Ham Daehoon`s novels. Ham Daehoon`s novels are basically based on love story. Ham Daehoon`s novels presented a new answer to the typical question of the time, which was whether true love can be done or not. It was the typical perception of the time that true love was always failing by the corruption of women. On the other hand, Ham Daehoon`s novels revealed the realization that true love was possible if a man tried to keep the pure love. The former is an attitude to attack for dump the cause of insecure reality at the time on the other, the latter is an attitude which sutures the uneasy reality with the fantasy of happy ending. Ham Daehoon`s novels have a significance in that it shows a new perspective on love, but it can be evaluated as having limitations in that it sutures the anxiety of reality in a fantasy.
