본 연구는 대학생의 방어기제를 통해 분류한 방어유형별 집단이 가지는 특성을 알아보고, 방어유형별 집단이 내현적 자기애와 내면화된 수치심의 관계에서 조절효과가 있는지 검증하기 위해 진행되었다. 이를 위해 수도권에 거주중인 대학생 430명을 대상으로 내현적 자기애, 내면화된 수치심, 방어유형에 관하여 설문을 실시하여 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 잠재계층분석(Latent Class Analysis)을 실시한 결과, 최종적으로 2-class 모형이 채택되었으며, 각각 `자기왜곡/경직된 방어유형 집단`(60.1%), `자기인정/유연한 방어유형 집단`(39.9%)으로 명명되었다. 둘째, `자기왜곡/경직된 방어유형 집단`은 `자기인정/유연한 방어유형 집단`에 비해 내현적 자기애가 내면화된 수치심을 증가시키는 관계를 급격히 증가시켰다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 통해 본 연구는 방어유형에 따라 구분된 대학생들의 집단별 특성을 제시하였고, 특히 자기억제적인 방어유형이 대학생들의 내현적 자기애와 내면화된 수치심 사이에 영향을 미치는 변인임을 증명하였다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의, 제한점, 후속연구에 관한 제언을 논의하였다.

The purposes of this study were to investigate the characteristics of the group of defense types classified by the defensive system of college students and to prove whether the defensive type group had a moderating effect on the relationship between covert narcissism and internalized shame. 430 college students living in the Seoul Metropolitan area were surveyed to collect data regarding covert narcissism, internalized shame, and defense styles. The results of the study are summarized as below. Firstly, 2-class model was selected after conducting latent class analysis for group classification by defense styles of university students, named “self extortion/stiff defense style group” (60.1%) and “self acknowledgement/flexible defense style group” (39.9%) respectively. Secondly, “self extortion/stiff defense style group” turned out to have a higher tendency than “self acknowledgement/flexible defense style group” to rapidly increase the relationship of covert narcissism increasing internalized shame. These findings suggested the characteristics by defense styles of college students based on latent class analysis and the importance of clinical trials in addressing covert narcissism, internalized shame which is a critical emotion of covert narcissism, and defense. Also, the significance, limitations, and suggestions for future studies are discussed.
