The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations of parenting behaviors to ego resilience among elementary and middle school students. A total of 4,211 adolescents were selected from the fourth data sets of the Korea Child and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS). More specifically, samples were composed of 4th graders in elementary schools(n=2,119) and 2th graders in middle schools(n=2,092). To measure parenting behaviors, Parent Behavior Inventory by Huh(2000) was used. This inventory is composed of 8 sub-factors; monitoring, reasoning, inconsistency, over-expectation, intrusiveness, physical abuse, neglect and affection. Hierarchical multiple regression was conducted using SPSS/WIN 22 and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted using AMOS 24. The results were as follows. First, confirmatory factor analysis revealed that affection, monitoring, reasoning, and neglect are the good indicators of parenting behaviors. Second, affection, monitoring, reasoning, and neglect were significantly related to adolescents` ego resilience even after controlling for child gender, parent`s education level and family income. Among 4 parenting behaviors, affection had most powerful impact on adolescents` ego resilience. Third, for elementary students, reasoning and neglect had bigger impact on ego resilience. Based on these results, several suggestions were made to improve parenting behaviors and adolescents` ego resilience.
