1965년에 결성되어 활동한 율동인은 한국 현대 시조 문학사에서 중요한 위치를 차지한다. 1965년 동인지 첫 호를 발간한 율 동인은 1969년 까지 5권의 동인지를 발간하며 창작활동을 했다. 율 동인 구성원이었던 김호길, 박재두, 서벌, 조오현등의 주요 시조 시인이 현대시조단의 중추적 역할을 담당하였으며 시조문학의 발전에 기여한 바가 크다. 본고에서는 『시조문학』 『경남신문』, 『율동인시조선집』등을 중심으로 율 동인의 활동상을 연구한다. 그동안 율 동인이 간행했던 5권의 동인지는 제 4권을 제외하고는 확인된 바가 없다. 그러나 1997년 『율동인시조선집』이라는 이름으로 복간호를 발간한 바 있는데 그 책 또한 출간과 동시에 전량 파기된 것으로 알려져 있어 율 동인의 탄생과 활동등을 조명할 자료를 찾기 어려웠다. 그러나 동인의 유족이 보유한 『율동인시조선집』을 확보하고 그 책에 수록된 동인 선언문과 머리글, 축시등을 확인하여 `율` 동인에 대한 총체적인 조명이 가능하게 되었다. 본고는 『율동인시조선집』을 분석한 논문으로서 `율` 동인과 동인지가 20세기 한국 현대 시문학사에서 갖는 의미를 점검하며 율 동인의 존재 의미를 탐구한다. 율동인은 현대 시조단의 대표적인 동인으로 꼽을 수 있다. 그동안 연구가 부족했던 시조 동인과 시조 동인지를 조명함으로써 문학사에서 누락된 시조 동인의 존재 의미와 가치를 복원하고자 한다.

This study aims at illuminating the little researched Sijo poetry club named Yul. Yul was created as a literary club in 1965 and officially dissembled in 1969 when their literary journal with the same title, Yul came to discontinue. The members published 5 volumes of poetry collections. Even after the club was dissembled, the members continued to create poems and contributed to the field of modern Korean literature. By examining diverse documents and books that deal with the activities of Yul members and by analyzing their texts and the philosophy of Sijo poetry its members maintained, this research attempts to contribute to locating their due place in Korean literary history. Such poets as So Bol, Pak Jae Doo, Kim Ho-gill, Kim kyo-han, Kim Chun-rang and Cho Oh Hyun, who played significant roles in developing Sijo poetry since 1960s deserve adequate scholarly attention. This paper examines diverse magazines such as Sijo Munhak and Si-mun hak. Through the forewords and statements included in the collected poems of Yul members, which was published in 1997, this paper also argues that Yul members were genuinely interested in recuperating the long neglected literary tradition of Sijo in modern Korean literature. By both theorizing their literary views and publishing numerous Sijo poetry with merit, Yul members contributed to Sijo genre. They should be recognized as major figures in the field of sijo.
