Zhen Dexiu(眞德秀: 1178-1235) classified selected sentences creatively into four genres and described features, the origin, and the writing norm of each genre in Wenzhang Zhengzong(文章正宗). This emphasizes that he considered the genre of sentences as a top priority, which aims to establish standards of various genres and implement the discipline of literary development. The value of Wenzhang Zhengzong is not in the classification of genres, but in the fact that it selected sentences by classified genre and it described features, the origin, and the writing norm of each genre by type. His unprecedented method and notion of classifying genres and are based on the macroscopic grasp of ancient genres of China, profound thinking, and a creative point of view. In terms of the history of Chinese genre classification, his classification of genres is worthy of referring to study the genre theory classifications of collection of articles in later generations.
