21세기 사회, 문화적 환경은 디지털 매체의 등장과 함께 많은 변화를 가져왔으며 시각 커뮤니케이션에서도 이미지의 질적 향상을 가져왔다. 아이덴티티 디자인에서 심볼마크의 흐름은 과거에는 조형적 단순화 경향을 보이며, 컴퓨터가 등장한 최근에는 디지털 이미지를 비롯한 아날로그 시대에는 가능하지 않았던 다양한 표현의 방법들이 제시되고 있다. 특히 자유분방한 선과 형태로 구성된 포스트모던적 경향과 탈의미, 탈형태, 탈구조로 나타나는 해체주의적 경향의 실험적 심볼마크가 보편화 경향을 보이고 있다. 두 가지 경향에서 한 축은 예술적인 기교나 각색을 최소화하고 사물의 근본 즉 본질만을 표현했을 때, 진정한 리얼리티가 달성된다는 미니멀리즘이며, 사물과 현상에 대한 새로운 시각을 갖게 하는 해체주의적 실험성이 나타난다. 따라서 각각 상반되는 형식을 개념화하고 사례들을 분류하여 체계화했다. 아이덴티티 디자인의 심볼마크 조형성 분류체계는 미니멀리즘 경향에서 절대형(形)의 순수성, 단일체의 변화, 동일형(形)의 반복, 사물의 본질적 표현으로 분류할 수 있다. 해체적 실험성은 탈의미(post-signifiante), 탈형태(post-form), 탈구조(post-structure)로 구분하고 각각 세 가지의 세부 하위체계를 두어 보다 면밀한 체계를 수립하였다. 분류체계의 각 항목은 미니멀리즘의 조형성과 데리다의 해체주의 구성 원리에 연구자의 견해를 접목한 부가적 의미를 더하여 개념을 정립했다. 분석의 툴은 포지셔닝 맵과 척도법을 응용한 `pie positioning map`을 통하여 국·내외에 발표된 심볼마크를 중심으로 조사하여 분류를 체계화했다. 이러한 분류체계를 통해 미니멀리즘 경향의 심볼마크는 함축성과 상징성을 위해 단순화해야 한다는 당위성을 확인할 수 있었고 동시에 대응적 개념으로서 실험적인 해체적 심볼들은 형식적 틀을 거부하는 표현의 다양성을 보여주며 현실적으로 커뮤니케이션되는 과정에서 본질의 왜곡이 아니라 의미 해석의 확장과 형태의 유희를 보여주고 있음을 파악했다. 심볼마크는 어떤 대상을 지칭하더라도 본질적인 생명력을 지니며 전달하고자 하는 수용자에게 효과적으로 인지되고 인식의 과정에서 의미 해석에 자율적 기반을 제시하고 해석의 유희를 주어야 한다. 따라서 본 연구의 미니멀리즘적 단순화와 해체적 실험성의 개념과 분류체계가 디지털 정보화 시대에 대응하는 아이덴티티 시스템의 창조적 방법론으로 재현될 수 있을 것이다.

In the 21st Century, the cultural environment along with the appearance of digital mediums brought upon great change and ameliorated the quality of images in visual communication. The symbol of identity design in the past showed a tendency to be simplified in terms of form. However, with the advent of digital mediums, various symbols of expressions appear especially the experimental characteristics of a deconstructive form, representing a free use of lines and forms to express a post signifiante, post-form, and post-structural type of expression. The two types of tendencies minimizes the artistic techniques and dramatization of the artistic expression, and expresses only the bare necessities as the essence of an object, and realizes true reality through this type of minimalism and provides a new perspective with a experimental yet deconstructive method. As a result, each corresponding form becomes conceptualized, and each classification becomes increasingly structured. The symbol of identity design can be classified by the minimalistic tendencies of the pure expression of absolute form, the expression of the essentials, the repetition of forms of identity, and the expression of what substantiates form. The deconstructive experimentation can be hierarchically classified into post-signifiante forms, post-form, and post structures, which births a more elaborate and intricate classification system. Each level of classification integrates the form of minimalism and the Derrida deconstructive composition principles, with the interpretation of the researcher to establish meaning and concept. The tools used to analyze, and classify the symbols expressed both domestically and internationally by type are the pie positioning maps, along with the positioning maps that implement an indexed and gauged standard. Through this type of systematic classification we are able to conclude that the symbols expressed with the tendencies of minimalism needto be simplified for the purpose of efficient expression and symbolism, while at the same time, as a corresponding concept, an experimental deconstructive symbol must reveal an affinity to reject conventional framework to reveal a variety of expressions while realistically being able to communicate with the expansion of analysis and meaning,and the freedom of form, not the distortion of the essence of what is to be expressed. Whatever the symbol may be designated to express, the symbol must retain essential vitality, and must be efficiently expressed to the desired recipient, while providing a platform for liberal analysis during the processes of achieving expression of the form in question. In conclusion, the minimalistic simplification, the concept of deconstructive experimentation, and hierarchic classification can recapitulate a creative methodology of identity systems that correspond to the digital age of today.
