책이 독자에게 읽혀지는 수동적인 매체가 아닌 독자가 사용자로 전환되는 능동적인 디지털 매체로 발전되는 시점에 오랜 역사를 통해 발전하고 변화해 온 책의 새로운 형태를 제안하고자 한다. 연구 및 디자인 프로세스는 네 단계로, 1)책의 역사와 디자인 요소의 분석, 2)전자책 현황 및 특성 조사, 3)디자인 컨셉 도출, 4)디자인 제안으로 이루어졌다. 디자인 목표와 범위 설정 후 책의 역사, 책의 디자인 요소, 텍스트 표현 방식, 제품 사용 대상, 전자책의 현황 등을 조사, 분석하였고 디자인 컨셉 도출에서는 세 차례의 디자인 발전 단계를 거쳐 최종 컨셉을 키워드로 정리하였다. 최종적으로 디자인 결과를 통해 사용자와 환경을 고려한 인간공학적 형태의 기능적인 전자책을 제안한다. 본 디자인 프로젝트는 전자책 디자인을 위해 책을 문화적 산물로서 이해하고 책의 역사 및 디자인 요소를 조사 분석하는 통합디자인적인 접근을 시도하였으며 분석을 통해 추출된 네 가지 컨셉 키워드; 1)인간공학, 2)환경친화성, 3)사용용이성, 4)연장지속성을 중심으로 디자인하였다. 결과물은 변화를 수용하는 디자인, 맥락 속에서의 필요와 욕구에 의한 디자인, 디자이너가 주체가 되는 디자인, 원천적인 자연의 시스템 속에서 조화를 이루는 디자인, 생태공존의 디자인 등 현재 제품환경디자인이 직면하고 있는 다양한 사안과 문제점에 상응하는 디자인으로 가치 창출 효과를 기대한다.

This paper is to propose a new form of a book that has been developed and changed over the long period of time. It is important as books are no longer passively read by readers but becoming an active digital medium, turning the readers into users. For the project, a design process of four stages were taken. First, the history of books was reviewed and design elements of books were analyzed. Second, the characteristics of electronic-book were investigated. Third, design concepts and designs of the electronic-book were developed. Lastly, the final design of the electronic-book was proposed. In an approach to the integrated design solution of the electronic-book, understanding book as a cultural artifact in the context of history and the analysis of various design elements and design issues were needed. Three development phases took place to finalize the concepts into keywords. The four concept keywords were, 1) ergonomic, 2) eco-friendly, 3) user-friendly, and 4) continuant. The proposed design of the electronic-book embodies changes of the media, the user, and the environment, harmonizes with the systems of the nature, and corresponds with various issues that product-environment design faces, expecting to enhance the value of the design.
