본고의 목표는 한문과 학교 문법에서 중요하게 여겨졌음에도 아직 본격적인 연구가 진행되지 않은, 생략에 대해 학습요소로서의 범주를 명료화함으로써 교과서 집필 및 학교 현장의 교수·학습에 보탬이 되고자 하는 것이다. 학교 문법은 학문 문법이 간결화, 간이화 과정을 거친 것이므로 먼저 학문 문법에서 제시하는 생략의 개념을 정리, 분석함으로 써 학교 문법으로의 적용 방안을 논의하였다. 학습 요소로서의 생략의 기준과 범위 관련해서는 언어학 일반의 각도에서, 생략으로 보아야 하는 주어 생략문과 생략으로 볼 수 없는 無主語文을 구분하였으며, 한문의 언어적 특성에 의거, 繫辭 생략을 학습 요소로 상정할 수 없음을 논하였다. 또한 학문 문법에서 중요하게 다루는 개사의 생략은 학교 문법의 측면에서는 다루지 않는 것이 적정함을 고찰하였다. 생략의 유형 및 문장 풀이에의 활용방안 관련해서는 현행 고등학교 한문Ⅰ 교과서 10종을 대상으로 하여 주어, 서술어, 보 어, 목적어 등 문장의 주요 성분의 생략 유형 및 교과서 풀이 실태를 분석함으로써 생략에 대한 문법 지식이 문장 풀이에 효과적일 수 있는 방안을 서술하였다. 아울러 현행 교육과정에서 학습 요소로 상정하지 않은 겸어, 개사 목적어의 생략도 언급하였는데, 교수·학습 현장에서 교수자가 인지할 필요가 있거나 교과서 편찬에 일정 정도 요구될 것이라 생각했기 때문이다. 본고의 논의가 향후 한문교육계의 생략에 대한 후속 연구에 일조할 수 있기를 기대한다.

This paper is to discuss on the ellipsis as one of the learning elements established in the Korean Classical Chinese curriculum. For this discussion, we need to consider at least three aspects. First of all, it is necessary to sort out and absorb the relevant research results in academic grammar study. Secondly, it is necessary to refer to the content structure of the Korean Classical Chinese national curriculum. Thirdly, we need to investigate the relevant interpretations and analyses appeared in the current middle and high school Classical Chinese textbooks. We suggest that, when we apply ellipsis as one of the learning elements in the Korean Classical Chinese textbooks, it is not appropriate to approach the ellipsis of subject constituent at the range of the null subject sentences. We also think that the certain types of ellipsis such as “preposition ellipsis” are not suitable for school grammar because its difficulty is not only greater than the effect of education, but also easily make learners confused. o we suggest that it is best not to mention it in school grammar.
