본고는 아깟담껑 라피팟의 단편 소설 「궁정 없는 왕족」에 나타난 왕조, 이념, 현실에 대한 기억의 형상화를 통해 멈짜오 서열인 태국 왕족들의 처지와 조국에 대한 헌신성을 강조한 작가의식을 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 작가는 태국 왕족들의 조국에 대한 충성심을 전함으로써 국가 기강을 굳건히 하려는 의지를 보인다. 더불어 자본주의 시대에 빈곤 왕족은 가난한 일반인보다 더욱 고통스럽게 산다는 것을 알림으로써 왕족이라면 특혜를 연상하는 민초들의 반감을 무마시키고자 한다. 그리고 볼셰비키 혁명 후 타국에서 흩어져 사는 러시아 로마노프 왕조의 왕족들과 귀족들의 빈곤한 생활을 전한다. 이는 이런 다른 나라 왕조의 붕괴 소식이 태국에 미칠 파장에 대비하여 앞으로 태국 왕조의 변혁의 방향과 왕족들의 미래에 대한 작가의 관심과 우려의 표현이다. 환락과 향유를 추구하는 기질의 부유한 왕족 보다는 빈곤한 왕족에게 있는 태국에 대한 충성심과 분수에 맞는 생활태도에 관한 이야기는 태국이 오늘날까지 입헌군주국으로서의 왕조의 명맥을 유지하게 만든 바탕이라고 할 수 있다.

The aim of this paper is to examine the authorial consciousness in “Royal without Court” that emphasizes the plight of Thai royals of the Mom Chao rank and their dedication to Thailand through its imagery of recollections on the dynasty, communism ideology, and the reality. The story evinces the author`s intention to strengthen national discipline by depicting the loyalty of the Thai royals to their homeland. Moreover, by showing how impoverished royals in the era of capitalism live in greater distress than poor commoners, the author seeks to placate the animosity of the common people who associate the royalty with privileges. He also describes the poverty of the royals and aristocrats of the Romanov dynasty that have scattered abroad to live as exiles after the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia. Here we see the author bracing for the impact of the collapse of monarchies in other nations on Thailand, and expressing his anxiety and concern for the future of the royalty and the convulsions that might reshape the Thai dynasty. We may say that this story about impoverished poor royals, who were loyal to their country and lived within their means rather than seeking revelry and enjoyment, played a foundational role in maintaining the existence of the dynasty to this day as a constitutional monarchy.
