This study explored the possibility of new community outreach services for youth reader development. In adolescence, the amount of reading is significant lower than in childhood, for the emphasis on university entrance exam reduces the time available for reading and the perfunctory reading education fails to raise interest in reading. This study seeks to solve the problem from a service design perspective focusing on the experiences of young readers. In particular, it aims to offer them easy access to books and help them build enjoyable reading habit.
First, it found a new possibility for library outreach service in `private space` which is the central activity area for the youth. Second, it is essential to offer a curation service specifically designed for them and still offer room for selection according to their interests. Third, the service process can be effectively structured when a smartphone application is used as a platform. Based on these findings, we developed a service scenario of `Bookrunner`, a community outreach service for the development of young readers, and propose a new reading ecosystem centered on youth.
