본고는 ≪北廂記≫에 드러난 사건을 중심으로 인물형상과 공간인식에 대해 살펴보았다. 작품은 현실을 반영하고 있기 때문에 작품 속에 나타난 인물과 공간은 시대상을 내재하고 있다고 보았다. ≪北廂記≫에 나타난 두 사건을 중심으로, 첫 번째 사건은 순옥과 낙안선생의 사랑이야기다. 61세의 낙안선생과 18세 기생 순옥의 마음을 확인하는 과정을 엮었다. 두 번째 사건은 봉래선과 이양진의 음모로 골탕 먹는 낙안선생의 이야기로, 내기 바둑으로 음모에 빠진 낙안선생을 구출하며 낙안선생과 순옥의 해피엔딩을 그렸다. 첫 번째 사건의 인물형상은 순옥과 낙안선생의 모순관계를 드러냈고, 두 번 째 사건의 인물형상은 봉래선과 이양진의 일치관계를 드러냈다. 또한, ≪北廂記≫의 공간은 다섯으로 나누어진다. 순옥의 집, 낙안당, 두물머리 주막, 이양진의 여관, 순옥의 집[北廂]으로 나눌 수 있다. 이 공간들은 ① 遊興· 奢侈의 공간, ② 安貧樂道· 演戱의 공간, ③ 約束· 解放의 공간, ④ 내기· 놀이의 공간, ⑤ 統合· 治癒의 공간으로 나타난다. 마지막 드러난 순옥의 집[北廂]은 모든 공간을 통합하는 공간으로 작품에서 가장 중요한 의미를 갖는다.

Accordingly, It was expressed Character and Space in this work, there was an argument behind a social phenomenon that showing the times. It was divide into characteristic configuration centering around two events of ≪Buksanggi≫. The frist event, It was Sunok and Nagan`s love story. This story was appeared inconsistent relation of two people. Nagan`s age was 61years. and Sunok`s age was 18year. Two people`s relation was irregularity. But, the second event, It was Bongraesun and Lee, yangjin`s story. At this story, two people exhibited consensus relation. Bongraesun and Lee, yangjin were very talented people in their early years. But, Lee, yangjin was exiled, Bongraesun was get old. Two people`s configuration was spoken for the other direction. The space of ≪Buksanggi≫ were divided into five. There were Sunok`s home, Nagandang[Nagan`s home], Dumulmeori inn, Yi yangjin`s hotel. This Space were came out ① a space of amusement· luxury, ② a space of comfort· theatricals, ③ a space of agreement· release, ④ a space of betting· play ⑤ a space of integration. healing. Among the rest, very important space was `Buksang(北廂)`.
