본 연구는 북한이탈주민의 정신건강 연구 동향을 분석하는 데에 목적이 있다. 북한이탈주민은 북한 생활, 탈북 과정, 남한 생활에의 적응과정에서 특수한 심리사회적 문제와 트라우마에 노출되면서 정신건강을 위협받는다고 다양한 매체를 통해 보도되었으며, 이들의 정신건강 관련 연구가 다양한 분야에서 활발하게 진행되어왔다. 그러나 정신건강과 관련한 다양한 주제로 산발적으로 진행되어왔을 뿐 연구의 주제와 결과의 전체적인 흐름이 어떠한지에 관한 동향분석은 제대로 이루어지지 않았다. 이에 본 연구는 남북통합과 통일을 준비하는 측면에서 북한이탈주민의 정신건강 연구 동향을 분석하고, 연구결과에 따르는 의의와 함의를 파악하고자 하였다. 연구방법으로는 문헌고찰 방법 중 하나인 스코핑 고찰 방법을 사용하였으며, 연도별, 학술지별, 분야별, 연구대상과 방법, 연구 주제를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 이를 위하여 1997년부터 2016년까지 관련 주제어를 검색하였고, 한국연구재단 등재(후보)지에 게재된 논문에 한하여 분석대상으로 하였다. 최종 선정된 논문은 총 142편이었다. 분석결과, 1997년도 이후 정신건강관련 연구가 출현하였고, 심리과학· 사회복지학· 정치외교학· 정신과학의 연구가 가장 높은 빈도를 보였다. 성인을 대상으로 한 연구가 71%에 가까웠으며, 노인과 아동에 대한 연구는 매우 빈약하였다. 주로 설명적 연구방법을 활용하였고, 연구 주제는 우울, 불안, 외상 후 스트레스 장애(PTSD) 등 정신질환에 대한 주제가 43% 이상으로 다수를 차지하였다. 이 외에도 삶의 질이나 외상 후 성장 등 긍정적이거나 회복을 주제로 하는 연구들도 있었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 북한이탈주민의 정신건강에 관한 연구 현황을 파악하고, 다가오는 통일시대에 앞서 북한이탈주민의 정신건강과 관련하여 향후 과제를 제시하였다.
This study aims on analyzing the trends of mental health studies of North Korean defectors. The issues of their mental health and their lives in South Korea came to an attention as number of incoming North Korean defectors increases in early 2000s. Media revealed that North Korean defectors have been exposed to various threats and trauma while they went through exile and adjustment to living in South. Therefore, many studies were conducted in various subject areas, although they were done in rather a sporadic way. And not many trend-analyses were performed. Thus, this study focused on the trend of mental health studies in contents, research methods, study subjects, academic fields, and period of study conducted. Based on the findings, the study recommended the clinical and policy implications. In order to collect data for analysis, DB of 1997 through 2016 with key words of mental health and related words. 142 articles were selected. The results revealed that 1997 seemed to be the first year that the mental health related articles appeared; Psychology, Social Work, Politics, and Psychiatry were the major fields with more than 10 articles appeared; about 71% articles were on adults with a poverty of elderly and child; descriptive study were most dominant; and the symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD were dominant with about 43% of articles. It was good to see some articles on positive quality of life, recovery or growth after PTSD. Based on the results, clinical and policy implications were recommended for mental health among North Koreans in the transitional period of unification.
