본고는 포노그라프 효과(Phonograph Effect)라는 음악과 연행에 끼치는 녹음의 영향력을 살피는 이론을 바탕으로 1990년대 이후 CD로 발매된 판소리 음반들의 목록을 제시하고 그 양상을 살펴, 판소리 CD의 포노그라프 효과의 문화적 의미를 확인하고자 한다. 1990년대 이후 CD로 발매된 판소리 음반은 총 300종으로 파악된다. 그 중에서 SP음반의 복각 CD는 총 44장으로 총 14.6%의 비율을 차지한다. 이와 마찬가지로 LP음반 CD 재발매의 경우는 84장으로 300종의 CD 중 28%를 차지하고 있다. CD 발매만을 위해 녹음한 음반들은 총 98개이고, 최근에는 소규모 실황녹음으로 판소리 CD가 발매되는 경향을 확인할 수 있다. 실황녹음에 의해 발매된 판소리 CD는 총 26매이다. 판소리 CD의 SP복각음반 발매와 향유는 포노그라프 효과의 유형성(有形性, Tangibility)을 통한 `목록화`로 설명할 수 있다. 물질이라는 음반을 수집하는데 있어 SP음반의 복각 음반은 다양한 목록의 수집이라는 새로운 기회를 제공한다. 이러한 `목록화` 양상은 1930년대 소위 `명창제 음반`의 등장에서부터 그 기원을 확인해 볼 수 있다. 하지만 복각 CD는 복원을 통해 드러나는 열악한 음질과 아울러 시대의 유행에 따라 변화된 음악적 취향 때문에, 신화화된 근대 명창들의 음악사적 의미와 문화적 명성을 오히려 약화시킬 수 있다. 포노그라프 효과의 이동성(Portability)과 반복성(Repeatability)은 판소리 학습과 발전에 새로운 전기를 제공한다. 스승의 소리를 똑같이 따라할 수밖에 없는 `사진소리`를 양성할 수도 있지만, 언제든지 반복해서 들을 수 있다는 반복성의 효과는 `색동소리`를 넘어서는 새로운 판소리 구성에 커다란 기회를 제공할 수 있기 때문이다. 시간제약성(Temporality)은 CD라는 매체를 통해 극복된것으로 보인다. 74분이라는 나름 방대한 녹음 시간은 완창 소리 녹음 음반의 대량 출현에 일조한 것으로도 생각해 볼 수 있다. 녹음장비의 수용성(Receptivity)과 조작성(Manipulability)은 그 효과를 전혀 사용하지 않음으로 해서 오히려 그 의미를 배가 시키고 있다. 조작이 가능한데도 음원을 조정하지 않고, 더 나아가 녹음장비의 한계와 녹음 환경의 잡음을 있는 그대로 노출시켜, 판소리가 가지고 있는 현장의 역동성을 CD에 있는 그대로 담아내고 있기 때문이다. 포노그라프 효과의 가시성과 비가시성(Visibility, Invisibility)은 새로운 판소리 향유의 전기를 설명할 수 있는 계기를 제공하기도 한다. 판소리는 `연행물`이기 때문에 단순히 듣기만 하는 음악에 국한되지 않는다. 최근 작게나마 시도되고 있는 이미지 중심의 판소리 영상은 판소리 영상물들이 가지고 있는 서사의 극적 구성 한계에서 벗어나 이미지로 서사를 설명하기 때문에 판소리 향유의 새로운 방식을 제시하고 있다고 평가해볼 수 있다.

This study presents the catalog of Pansori CD records with the effect of phonograph published since the 1990s, examines the pattern of such CDs, and determines the cultural meaning of the phonograph effect of Pansori CD. Some 300 types of Pansori CD records have been released since the 1990s. Of them, SP record-copied CDs totalled 44, representing 14.6%. Likewise, LP record-republished CDs numbered 84, representing 28% of 300 CDs. Records, recorded only for the publishing of CDs, totalled 98, and it was confirmed that Pansori CDs are recently being published based on a small-scale real recording. Pansori CDs, published based on real recording, totalled 26. The publication and enjoyment of Pansori CDs based on SP-copied records can be explained in terms of catalog of CDs through the tangibility of phonograph effects. In the collection of records as a material, SP record-copied records provide a fresh opportunity to collect the diverse cataloged. This catalog pattern can trace back to the 1930s when the so-called famous vocalist festival records emerged. However, these record-copied CDs may weaken the implication and reputation of the legend famous vocalists because of the poor restored CD sound quality and the changed musical characteristics according to times. Portability and repeatability of the phonograph effect provide a new momentum to the learning and development of Pansori. The CDs may foster vocalists with "photographic sound" because they have to follow their teachers, but the effect of repeatability of listening to songs can provide a big opportunity to create a new Pansori beyond "Saekdong sound." Temporality is seen as being overcome through the medium of CD. A vast recording time of 74 minutes is believed to contribute to a massive production of “Wanchang sound” records. The receptivity and manipulability of recording equipment are doubling their meaning by not using their effects. Sound source is not manipulated even though manipulation is possible, and furthermore, the limitations and problems of recording equipment, and the noise of the recording environment are exposed as they are, allowing CDs to capture the field dynamics of Pansori as it is. The visibility and invisibility of the phonograph effect provide a momentum to enjoy a fresh Pansori. Pansori, which is a performance, is not limited to the mere-listening music. The image-oriented Pansori images, which are recently being attempted, albeit in a small scale, explain the narration with images instead of using the narrative dramatic plot of Pansori, offering a new method of enjoying Pansori.
